THE leader of Nigerian traders in Ghana, Chief Chukwuemeka Nnaji, on Wednesday told the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, how Nigerian traders had been subjected to hardship by the Ghanaian authorities since 2007.

He added that Nigerian traders had their businesses registered with appropriate agencies while they pay their taxes as and when due, yet they were still subjected to harsh treatment by the Ghanaian authorities.

Nnaji said many Nigerian traders could not afford the latest $1m trade registration fee, adding that those who could not pay the sum still had their shops under lock and key.

Nnaji was quoted to have said this in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media and Publicity, Lanre Lasisi, titled, ‘Gbajabiamila hopeful of mutually acceptable resolutions to Ghanaian diplomatic face-off… as Nigerian traders narrate ordeals to Gbajabiamila.’

The Speaker, who led a delegation of members of the House on a “legislative diplomatic mission,” said the two-day visit to Ghana was meant to explore legislative diplomacy towards resolving the issues affecting both countries.

The Nigerian delegation was received by the Speaker of the Ghanaian Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye, as they arrived in Accra, the capital of Ghana.

The Ghanaian Speaker, while receiving his Nigerian counterpart, expressed confidence that an amicable resolution would be reached on the issues.

Responding, Gbajabiamila said he was hopeful that Nigeria and Ghana would arrive at mutually acceptable resolutions on the trade dispute.

He said, “Brothers will always have squabbles , healthy ones. National interests on both sides will always come to play. But it is not the misunderstanding that matters; it is how you resolve it that matters.”

Tell our people to behave...

Ghana should be one of the tolerant countries accepting Nigerians uncultured behavior

Modified

Why do Nigerians like to claim victims when they are indeed the culprits.

Are Nigerians the only foreigners doing business in Ghana?

Is the imaginary $1m tax applicable only to Nigerians?

Have you guys even bother to ask the worth of their investment before Ghanaian authority will demand $1m tax?

Our people are now running same Ikeja Computer village scam in Ghana.

How about brothel house running by Nigerians across Ghana region?

How about organised Kidnapping? Yes you read right, Evans was closed to Ghana remember....

They are spoiling business for Ghanaians with fake products and you expect their government to fold hands.

Ghanaian authority, please deport as many of Nigerians that are not ready to abide by your law.

Nonsense undecided

My question already answered yours...

May be I should make it clear for you again, what's the total population of the acclaimed Nigerian traders claiming vicitim compared to total population of Nigerian traders in Ghana..

Why are the Ghanaian government not demanding imaginary $1m tax from other 85% if not 90% doing their business legitimately in Ghana?

So Ghanians don't misbehave in Nigeria I suppose? I never seen a country as accomodating as Nigeria in Africa. Many Ghanians reside in many states up to a point that they have blended with our culture and way of life, now it is difficult to differentiate between Ghanaians and Nigerians. The truth still remains, many Ghanaians see most Nigerian traders as a threat to their businesses.

Honestly Ghanaians has been envious of Nigerians and it shows in every sphere of life. From sport to entertainment to trade and even education.

Even from the comments of Ghanaians in media space you could tell the amount of grudges they have against Nigerians.
Maybe the 'Ghana must go' debacle is still boiling in their mind.

He cited the closure of the Seme-Krake borders since August 2019 as part of steps taken by the Federal Government, which he said had affected the neighbouring countries.
This closing of border issue is the backbone of this problem.
That is the main crux of the matter..... No doubt about it!

*They said we are the poverty capital of the world.
Our Darling Daddy decided that we should just close our poverty stricken borders to the outside world so that we can manage on our own.
Suddenly, scarcity hits Benin Republic, Togo, Niger.
Demonstration hits Ghana, Vietnam, Thailand and other envoys all came calling.*
*Their economy depends on our poverty.

They are begging the most corrupt nation on Earth to do business with them.
They have no buyers for their commodity.
In our neighbors domain, scarcity hit them hard.*

It turned out they need us more than we need them.
We have all it takes to stand alone as a nation.
All we need is a plan and a willing leader.

God bless Nigeria*

WE continue to STAND WITH THE BORDER CLOSURE,
It is for the good of all sane, honest and hardworking Nigerians.

Again, God bless Nigeria.

Slawormir:
Damnnnnn
I don't do politics
But i like this man for that border closure
Which means buhari is a real niggarrr

Nigerian politicians are also treating you badly.
See gbajamiala who is delegating himself to Ghana will receive millions of naira as allowances for this trip apart from the #30m salary he receives monthly. If he make good laws that will benefit you you won't be emigrating to Ghana to hustle.Their bad rulership is the reason why you run to other people's countries to make ends meet.

Do you also know that Buhari has chased them away from Nigeria in 1984 as a military dictator?

Ghanaians just have to admit it--it is over!
Once you let Nigerians in, they ain't going no where.
Anyone crazy enough to pay $1m have plans to recoup the money--transfer it to customers. If they are hoping on "Nigerians Must Go"...in their dreams. Xenophobia couldn't keep them away from SA. They must understand that Nigerians are like flies perched on inflammed scrotum.

It was the civilian administration of late President Shehu shagari that deported Ghanaians from Nigeria in the 1980s not Buhari the then military head of state that overthrew shagari government.
