All these na drama. Nobody that doesn't like a business where you have zero expenses but make a profit of over 100% every month. These power companies don t spend anything on improving power. In my area, we own our transformer, we bought our poles and wires, we paid the officials that connected us, we were responsible for all the expenses. The bedc only bring bills at the end of the month, that is the part they have always played, they don't even provide meters embarassed Who won't like such a business? It is an empty threat.
God bless you

Is this a genuine threat or an empty one? Please let your threat be genuine if you fit. My wish is for you to go because you are all dubious, thieves at it's best. Rather than bring back PHCN, NEPA as you it were, you continue to give them bailout for continuef darkness that we are paying for. The private operators are thieves, consumers continue s to fictictious/dubious bills for darkness, yet, they continue to complain. They knew very that power is not an easy venture yet they jumped at it because they know they will swindle politicians who are just there to steal money. Pa Buhari, meet just one of campaign promises and give Nigerians PHCN. The Disco's are armed robbers, Nigeriand are tired of being made the fools.

@COMPAQ, why not?You sound pro discos. They are a collage of irresponsibles. They overcharge consumers for what they don't use.
It's not rocket science, the problem of the power sector. If the legal frame work is in order, the grey areas sorted out, and the parties adhere to the terms, why not. Please,do not put a lead on the possibility of serious investors coming on board. The communication sector is a good example of where investors put in their money and it worked, still works.
These discos here are just useless. They don't seem to be building capacity at all. They just roll out bogus and outrageous estimated bills monthly for power they don't give.

Everyone quotes the gsm sector as one that works. Did you ever hear that the government forced operators to any specific tariff? Sim went as high as N20k, which is like N100k in todays value yet people bought it before it came down. Tarrifs have stayed about the same for 10years, but in real terms when you consider inflation and devaluation it has really come down.

The gsm sector is unique though in that the marginal cost of add I ng one subscriber to its network is zero. If 100k people move to MTN, it doesnt cost anything extra to provide service to them, so its easy to reduce cost, cos the fixed costs are now spread out over more users. Most other sectors are not like that. To supply electricity to 100k more people means a DISCO must also pay for that extra electricity.

Like I said earlier, when we do the right things, we get the right results.

I work as a plant operator in a power generation company. Would u believe that NCC will tell the power generation company that they are receiving too much megawatt? And they'll be complaining that we are not generating enough power

But why are Discos or NCC not willing to receive and distribute the power generation allocated to them, when to all purpose it should end in additional revenue for them?

This life no balance at all.imagine the disco used my money and your money to buy our electricity (our property) and we are still paying them for using our property.yoruba will say owo abu lo fi se abu la le jo(meaning u are using abu money to entertain abu indirectly)

I believe they have a target, once the power generated exceed that daily target they request we shutdown. They don't want to pay over. Also I believe they are keeping their own share. Someone is cutting funds allocated to the discos im sure cuz the companies are very capable even at a limp condition

How basic projects like electricity road health and education seem to be a big deal for Government officials to grasp is beyond me.

The reason why electricity seem so difficult is because we are practicing the bottom-up approach why not let's try the top-down approach?.

If distribution is the problem confine it to specific places like only the State Capitals while places like Lagos and Abuja could be given Vvip treatment, anybody that needs electricity should go to the State Capital then from there we can work our way down to the four corners.

Trying to give two hundred million people electricity at a go is insanity. Trying to distribute energy round nine hundred thousand square kilometers all at once is even more so.

Nigeria need to understand the need and use of this four variables and their accompanying variations and mixture:
Urgent
Important
Necessary
And indifference

Electricity to everybody is necessary but not urgent cause to some people it's not important while to some it won't change a thing.

Electricity for industry and gentrification is urgent and important.

Report “Investigations by Vanguard, yesterday, indicated that their action was propelled by recent developments, especially the planned forensic audit of the operations of DISCOs and the directive of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, that banks should commence collection of tariff, targeted at enabling them recover huge loans granted them to buy the assets””

Disco threat to pull out of its contract obligation is because they scare audit probe will expose their criminal activities.

Corrupt people don’t like audit. They don’t want oversight. They love backdoor deals. That is why they are threating to leave.

So, this attitude by DISCO calls for the federal government of Nigeria to invest in job training for Nigerians in the right field so that they open electrical companies themselves instead of relying on foreign expertise.

Next month, October1, 2020 Nigeria will be 60 years since it became an independence Nation.

Again, it goes back to the history of Ajaokuta steel company in the mid-1970s when then, General Gowan awarded contract to a west Germany company to build a steel company. While in the middle of construction, the Germany company stopped the construction and pull out due to mounting pressure from western governments over the suspicious Nigeria might use the steel development to build bombs, then attack western nations with these bombs.

There was no evidence offered by the West Germany company that Nigeria would use the steel company to build bomb.

Last but not the least, I call on the federal government of Nigeria and all the state governments to stop handing scholarship to Nigerians to go and study business administration. Scholarship should be handed to Nigerians who want to study science and technology.

No brainer here.

How are the poor living in face me I face you apartment that cohabit with the middle class going to afford this recent tariff?

They are simply encouraging illegal connection of electricity in the country.

Bad timing

There has been a power outrage that's put everywhere in total darkness.... Only generators to power things..

Who do us this thing for Naija?

The government of darkness must go abeg

the locquasous CSO should provide the public with the financial records of the Discos since he knows how much they infested on distribution, it's just a VIP treatment of failure when fashola was paying trillions for Disco incompetence as bailout, and he's supposedly one of the best heads of this regime, what ingenuity can one expect from it.The Discos simply cashed out on this government's stupidity and failure to take advise from it's predecessors on how to handle Discos
