He's not suggesting that the striking doctors be replaced with doctor corp members, he implied that these corp members should be temporarily engaged to avoid service disruption while negotiation continues with the striking doctors. And yes, NYSC doctors are very qualified to attend to basic medical conditions having spent 6years in school(most of the time spent on clinical trainings), one year housemanship plus many locum attachments.

You are the one getting things twisted here. The minister did not imply that the NYSC doctors would be required to carry out specialist services. The consultants and locum doctors would be engaged to do more tasking procedures while the Corp member doctors would attend to less demanding cases. Unless you are trying to suggest that the over 7years training the young doctors went through in school is a total waste of time, there's no biggie in inserting a nasogastric tube, taking arterial blood for ABG tests, arresting bleeding on time or handling a defibrillator. These are basic procedures that can be done by any smart young doctor.

That statement is coming from a doctor. Replacing them with corper doctors, which must have done their housemanship.
