Stop talking rubbish. Low mileage has never been evidence of anything. A car having low miles means just that, that it has low miles. Doesn't mean it's better than a car with 50k miles more.

As for OP, personally, I'd say take the L. Sell the car. Those engines are the perfect example of awful mechanical design. A replacement may fail too, there's no getting over it. A rebuild is probably the smarter option but there's nothing much you can do if the design is inherently flawed.

I am warning You, it will be terrible if you don't stop your nuisance, stick to your opinion, stay your lane, don't follow me everywhere.

Stop talking rubbish and I'll stop replying you. I don't give a rat's ass about you, I just don't like that you're actively misinforming people who may not know any better.

Engineer here, I disagree.

If it works, it works. Of course, that only counts if functionality isn't abruptly disrupted by catastrophic failure. In the case of Adanny and his paper solution, I think it was an excellent choice. The fact that it's lasted two years supports that opinion. At this point, he's gotten full utility from what was supposed to be a temporary fix. Even if he throws a rod now, I like to think he won't be too pissed.

Again, if it works, it works. There are always multiple solutions. Always.

Inception:

A ladder frame is basically the structural part of the engine block ( usually bolted on) that serves 2 purposes: housing the main crank journals /bearings and providing extra rigidity to the block itself. You can google that for more knowledge on the matter.

Saying I am defeated by my knowledge is quite unfortunate in this discourse. At no point did i say using your band aid fix was not possible, nor practical. I am only explaining here that for best results and peace of mind, work with factory specifications, particularly for the OP's engine. Working with your analogy could easily justify some of these practices our kazeems do ( e.g removal of thermostat and connecting the fans direct , a digression if you don't mind). we know that the car will still work, but not as intended from design. So in a nutshell it is what it is, a band aid fix , which must come with a caveat.

If you ask the owner , i bet he would ask for a solution that would give him peace of mind at the right cost, not one that his heart would be in his mouth throughout the period he owns the vehicle.
Infact the only time he would love to cut corners is if he wants to sell the car asap and needs the car in ' run and drive ' condition grin. So if it is adding paper packing to the conrod bearing that gives him peace of mind, who am i to question him grin

As for kazeems, ask yours if he would attempt to rebuild this particular engine and hear his response grin

Yet again you miss it. Misinformation is what is being challenged here. Not your person. Time and time again, we have tried to explain to you that high mileage is not the author and finisher of all car buying guide.
There are cars with 150k miles that are better than cars with 100k miles.

There is no hard and fast rule about this thing.
There are 2018 model cars with 100k miles already.
Doubt me? Go to copart, Manheim, iaai, adesa, mobile.de, etc. Your eyes will pop at the mileages of some 2015 model cars. It's highway miles. They are better off than some low miles driven in los angeles, New York and some other cities in usa with heavy traffic. These cars have spent their entire lives on the freeway turning over at 2000rpm with sufficient lubrication and not idling away at traffic lights with minimum lubrication or lugging in low gears.

I come in peace.

...coupled with all the upshift and downshift of the transmission when accelerating and decelerating in the city-a kind of driving that inflicts more stress on the gearbox. compared to a high mileage car that upshifts once and continues on its highest gear for the remainder of the journey leaving the clutches and shift solenoids chilling throughout the long trip. they'll never learn until they fall victim.

i have cleared tokunbo cars from port and the heavily loaded high mileage cars that were rolled out of the container have extraordinary performance, same way 70k 100k miles had knocked engines and their profiles were tagged clean title run and drive on copart

i'm sure you've seen this before sir

I disagree with you sir. Lexus, Acura or Benz poorly maintained will also give same problem. The issue is not the brand or manufacturer but the lack of diligent check before buying by OP.
I know Sonata is a great car except for the 2011. I don't know so much about the 2012.
Sorry Op, your driver friend failed you.

okoroemeka:
In Nigeria with poor maintenance, bad roads, crazy mechanics and dubious spare parts dealers , buying a car because it is beautiful is a very bad idea,a be car must be evaluated considering first durability, track record, available parts, ease of maintenance,if the OP had a tokunbo car from Lexus,Acura or Benz I don't think he will be seeing such problems in years talkless of one week, this vehicles has been tested and proven beyond any reasonable be doubt.
