waxingmoon:. In this part, I would say Piquante has slightly better market value than demon. So you may want to look at that instead of just yield in volume. |

safarifarms: Exactly, you have said just right. That is at least 80% of the cause. Thank you |

safarifarms: Of course you can!! It us very suitable. You may just have to trim the palm fronds before you start a planting cycle. |

safarifarms: If that is the case, just leave a few meters allowance before making your beds. But that's should not deter you |

Re: Bountiful First Harvest In My Tomato Farm by Obatobi1(m): 3:19pm On Dec 19, 2020 |
kemstol: I will take my time to do the calculations for you, I hope you understand it. I'm going to base the calculation on the spacing on your drip irrigation tube/tape (30cm, 40cm or 50cm). Now let's assume you make a 20m long bed in 20places, (each bed at about 1m wide and walkway of about half meter). So let's pick 50cm spacing, 20m long bed is same as 2000cm (you remember 100cm make 1 meter) So we have 2000cm bed. 2000cm÷50cm =40plants and per line. Using double line per bed, we have 80 plants per bed. Now multiply that by 20beds = 1600. So you should have about 1500 to 1600 pet plot, using 50cm spacing and double line per bed. Similarly for 30cm 2000cm÷30cm = approx 65plants. Double line per bed =130 plants per bed. 130plants × 20 beds on the plot That is about 2600 plants per plot. PLEASE NOTE: If you are a newbe in tomato production, you may not be able to cope with the spacing or double line arrangement. Contact me on 07068990624 if you need further guidance 1 Like 1 Share

I just came across your thread, I must say it's been so interesting and very insightful. I have been considering to start a tomato farm as well and i'll like to get in touch with you in due time. I'm based in Lagos but I'm planning to acquire land at Oyo town to at least keep for when I'll start. I'm a civil servant and will like to first test run on a plot then expand to like 5acre but for now I'll get d land and use for cassava till I can plant myself nd I'm already saving up for d land. Kudos to you again.. I hope you are having a better farming season |

Good evening all. Please if you have had an experience regarding this please help asap. There is this land I got recently that is close to stream but I'm having serious headache with it regarding the type of soil. I noticed the soil is a clay soil and that it holds on water. My fear is on the soil drainage when the rain comes since I'm not in control of rain and I'm in the south that experiences heavy downpour yearly. I have never grown vegetables on a soil like this. I have always had loamy and sandy soils that drains well with raised bed and have not had issues. What is your experience growing pepper, cucumber, tomatoes, etc on a clay soil. Drought problems made me source for a land close to water but this clay is giving greater headache now. Please help asap with your suggestions. Thank you. |
Re: Bountiful First Harvest In My Tomato Farm by Obatobi1(m): 7:01am On Feb 19, 2021 |
tpben: Well, I will not advice you to plant on a clay soil (cos it seem its pure clay from the way you're talking). You needs to avoid certain situations like damping off and likes, so I'll advice you to get another that has access to water but not clayey soil. |
