The federal government has withdrawn the approval granted to Emirates to conduct international flight operations in the country.

Hadi Sirika, minister of aviation, disclosed this via a post on his Twitter handle on Friday.

The ban will take effect on September 21, 2020.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had, in a memo earlier in September, included Emirates in the list of approved airlines for international flights for both Abuja and Lagos airports.

But the minister said the decision to reverse the approval was taken after a meeting of the presidential task force (PTF) on COVID-19 with European Union ambassadors on Friday.

Sirika also said there were discussions on the ban on Lufthansa and Air France-KLM.

“The PTF sub committee met today with EU Ambassadors to discuss Lufthansa, Air France/KLM ban. The meeting progressed well. Emirates Airlines’s situation was reviewed & they are consequently included in the list of those not approved, with effect from Monday the 21st Sept. 2020,” the minister wrote.

You don't a national carrier and you banning the foreign airlines which will make the few airlines you approved to hike tickets thereby making life difficult for Nigerians who wants to travel out. Plus the over 60k fee you have to pay for covid 19 test before traveling. Which Kain wahala be this?

Nonsense and height of cluelessness. You locked them out, their planes won't come again. We indirectly lock ourselves in or at best create an unfair rise in price in air fare cost based on increased demand and less supply of airline operators to commute. If we have had Nigerian Air (or what name is that failed project called), we would have had good trades of commuting people to their destination and make money that will lead to an improved economy.

Nigeria is trying to redeem her image, if you ban me I ban you, no offence.
The EU are on the round table to dialogue with Nigeria on how to lift ban on some of the flights.

You loot billions and go store in Dubai, UK, USA, etc...

Billions and hard currency that can be used to develop our real estate sector, set up different companies and inject life into Nigeria economy...

You loot the funds and keep it in these countries to help them grow while your own country remains a dustbin.

The EU and other countries are begging and in negotiations with the Federal government to allow them flight the Nigeria airspace. One major thing you cannot relegate Nigeria from is her market base but some IPOB clowns doesn't seems to know that. Nigeria closed her borders and most West African countries were crying....
