My certificates have become useless. I graduated in 2008, passed out of NYSC in 2010. Till date I have not used my certificates for anything. What I am regretting in my life now is time I wasted in the university. My wife graduated in 2015, she is now learning tailoring because she couldn't get a job too.

What did you study? And why do you lose hope in yourself?

Education makes you self reliant, if you understand. It also makes you able to think for yourself and be rational.
Education makes you fit into the existing and emerging modern societies. Without education, certain things would be definitely beyond your reach.

With education, you stand a chance to achieve any success. You also stand the chance to attain any office, be it of political or of social standing.

SO, YOU SHOULD THANK GOD YOU STUDIED. ANSWER MY TWO INITIAL QUESTIONS. AND WE WILL MOVE ON FROM THERE

I will reply those fools saying you go to university to become an entrepreneur.
Let me give you some courses they study in the USA.
*Home making
*Interpersonal conflict resolution
*Speech Pathology
*Textile fabrication
*Bioinformatics
*Physics and Astrology
*Personal Relationship
*Military engineering
*Glass engineering
*Meteorology
*Leadership and Career Development
*Entrepreneurship
*Respiratory Therapy
*Medical Records
*Forensic science
*Data science
*History and Philosophy
*Environmental science and sanitation
*Geography and Geoinformatics
*Brewing Technology
*Mixology
The list is very long and wide but at the end you can fit in.
NIGERIA AND COPY COPY WITH A VERY NARROW ECONOMY is offering courses which should have helped move us forward but has indefinitely made people jobless.
*Engineering Physics
*Ecotourism
*Biodiversity
*Physiology
*Anatomy
*Science Laboratory Technology
*Parasitology and Entomology
*Agriculture
*Home Economics
*Library science
*History and Linguistics
*Philosophy
*Physics and Astrology(option in cosmology)
*Meteorology
*Computational biology
*Philology
* Water Engineering
The list is endless.
Then one person will say learn coding and programming to succeed. If you think coding and programming makes you a computer scientist then you are jonzing.
During the advent of gaming. Many Americans dropped out of school and became programmers for gaming companies. Those companies that liquidated resulted in the loss of jobs of these programmers.
Some went back to school others became jobless.
A TIME WILL COME WHEN PROGRAMMING WITHOUT THE APPROPRIATE DEGREE AND CERTIFICATE TO BACK IT UP WILL BECOME JOBLESS.
MANY GO INTO PROGRAMMING AS A LAST RESORT OF HOPE. I REPEAT PROGRAMMING IS JUST A TINY BIT OF COMPUTER WHICH IS NECESSARY FOR COMPUTER DEVELOPMENT.
YOU DON'T FORCE SOMEONE INTO ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND PERSONAL BUSINESS, IT IS CONCEIVED AND DONE WILLINGLY.
BILL GATES WAS NEVER FORCED LIKEWISE MARK ZUCKERBERG, DANGOTE, JEFF BEZOS AND MANY OTHERS.
SHAME!!!

Your initial comment gave you as arrogant. With this one you have redeemed yourself (my opinion). The society has made us to believe that education is for us to get a job and a good one. From a young age we are told to study hard so as to get a good job. Nobody tells us to study hard so that we can create a job. Gradually we are beginning to understand that we need to be creators of employment and not wait for a good job opportunity to come our way.

My brother I greet you. There is this growing mentality among our youths of today, especially in Nigeria, that school is not important. One even had the shamelessness to burn his certificates and post it online and some were praising him. Meanwhile when he gets sick he runs to the doctor or pharmacist who went to school. He uses phones designed by engineers and tech specialists who excelled in school, etc. In my opinion (and lot of people seem not to comprehend the meaning of this term, by the way), school hardly fails people, it is the people who fail themselves. The syllabus or system of teaching may not be as good as it should be, but the onus is usually on the student to study and research for himself. The university is supposed to be a place of research, not waiting for the lecturer to come and dictate notes for the students to memorize and "pass" exams.

Thanks my guy. My niece has been disturbed lately since my brother, her father wants her to learn tailoring which she doesn't like. The girl said she wants to study English to teach, my brother is saying she should go for Law.
From my statement above her father wants her to get a degree and end up in tailoring if Law eventually bleeps up in the future. These goes to tell you that we go to school IN NIGERIA to create jobs for ourselves, why the Wealthy go to school to get these jobs or get support from their family to start up for their own businesses because they want to.
I remembered how I had to relocate to Lagos to hustle because my degree wasn't of necessity yet. It might be needed later but what of the work 10yrs + experience as an engineer where will I get that from when I have worked 8yrs+ in agriculture.

Hmmm I hate the school system but it's not useless. They teach us the opposite of success in schools. They make us compete against each other in class which comes against the basic biological organization of a simple cell. We must work together as an organ to be productive in life. Each one just needs to find out its function. Learn from the sun, stars, moon, water, air, animals and plants.

I won't say much.
Nb. I don't believe in dark science, I believe in the Bible

Because you said this I'll talk. Today, I've never sent a CV anywhere. Setting up multiple enterprises because of the knowledge I learnt through school

I took school extremely serious. Always ranked best in Physics, Maths, Biological sciences. Today, I design machine parts, engineering machines, and complex business infrastructural systems. It's not because I went to school alone. No. It's because I got educated while schooling.

One can go thru/to school, without being educated. That's the difference

I'm skilled in 20 professional fields from engineering to ICT to plant biotechnology. At times, it's about:

1. Skillset

2. Getting educated and not just schooling

3. Forming good beneficial associations that'll push you and inspire you

4. Doing something with what you know and stop procrastining

MY ADVICE TO THE OP IS TO FIND A MENTOR AN ENTREPRENEUR OR ENTERPRISE THAT HAS A VISION AND BELONG TO A UNIT IN THE TEAM AND YOU'LL FIND PURPOSE AND FULFILLMENT

All these you mentioned yet you are here looking for who will join your wriiting team which is not closely related to any of the shit you mentioned above. You said you were educated on all those things abi, where were you educated on them then?

Giving you thesame exams and making you feel like you can beat the rest of your classmates. The exams is not a true test of your intelligence cos your brains are not wired to think in thesame direction. The exam favours and doesn't to some but they just don't care, to them your intelligence has been tested.
