Tribalism is something that can hardly be totally eliminated. As regards marginalization for the governorship seat it is normal. The idomas are also doing the same thing to the igedes as regards the zone C senatorial seat. I stay in Enugu and I love how they structure their politics over here.
Since 1999 till date their has been a power rotation amongst the 3 senatorial districts in the state.And to a larger extend is has removed bad blood from the political actors in the state.

At list it gives the people a sense of belonging.

Under normal circumstance, a lecturer, even if he/she is a "graduate assistant" is supposed to know and aware of new developments in schools, societies and world in generally, one of expectations from their employers is to do research and conversant with happenings in the society.

However, I wish to observe that the professors have a wide range of experience and deep knowledge of their individual core area of knowledge which would always be needed. The only problem is that the natural law of diminishing return is already in motion in many of them. This is what we are always oblivious of. A 60+ person cannot be as sharp in memory as they would be in their 20s, 30s and 40s. Also, the rate of memory waning differs from person to person due to individual differences which dictate levels of performance.

As most of the candidates in the exams would be in their 50s and 60s, the best candidate in terms of knowledge, character and integrity might not win due to the fact that they are incapable of thinking fast, comparatively, at this point of their life but if they are given the job they will deliver as expected. Joe Biden and Donald Trump may not pass an examination on administration or management but Americans want to entrust one of them with their lives for the next four years. Old people in politics, religion, etc in Africa and other parts of the world who are failing their people are doing so because in their younger years they were failures. We need remember shining lights such as Dr Nelson Mandela, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Archbishop Olubunmi Okogie, Prof Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Prof Dora Akunyili of blessed memory, etc. But our hearts will ache if we attempt to add bad leaders as Buhari of Nigeria, Ouattara of Cote d'Ivoire, Kigame of Rwanda, Gnassingbe of Togo, Museveni of Uganda, Elrufai of Kaduna and the like to the list.

So my submission is subjecting profs to writing exams for that VC office may have been opted for with a preconceived idea of eliminating certain names. What should have been done was look at their records in all ramifications, interview them and make a shortlist of candidates that would be presented to the academic community which would decide who would take over the VC office through election.

Political office is far different from academic environment, if they decline in memory as u think, why did they clamoring for 70years of age for retirement of professors, which means ur assumption is wrong as regard to that.


Going back to exam conducted for them, it was stated that only 7 passed , why other failed, failure in that context mean they didn't score up to 50% of total score, for professors that entrusted to do research and transfer such research unto students and general public not scoring 50% of exam conducted for them speak volume of decay in our education system, mind you less that 1/3 of professors passed more than 50%.

Even as a graduate one should be able to contribute as little as possible on every issues of life. I think we do argue it here that girls are boring to chat with when it come to every issues of life.

flyingpig, Benue State University is not a Northern(Hausa) University. 90% staff are Tiv and Idoma. Hausa language (intonation) is not used and will never be used in teaching in the school. Get that.

Mate you are 100% correct. I looked at the names that passed and they were almost all tiv. I just smiled and thought who are these ones deceiving? I have worked in many states in Nigeria, but in Benue State there is the worst tribalism you can find anywhere. As long as this tribalism continues Benue State will be (perhaps) the most backward state in Nigeria.

Back to the matter.The state level is what am talking about. We have 2 major tribes in Benue state.1 tribe has been the one in power since 1999.That is 21 years and counting. Is it fair?.Presently,the governor and the minister from Benue are all the same tribe.Another unfair situation.

As for the youths,they are another big problem. Cultism induced by idleness is tearing them apart in that place.Poverty,both physically and mentally have taken over their lives.

The state is blessed with natural resources,but visionless leaders are in abundant over there.
