As promised, this is my story.

I flew BA cos I love them and wanted to boost my mileage. My travel scripture was John 10:9 so I was ready to enjoy all round favour.
I had earlier requested for wheel chair or buggy assistance.

got to the airport at 8.00pm flight was for 11:30pm. Filled my e bola form and checked in. Presented my fit to fly letter. No questions asked and hubby made a photocopy for them. They asked us to come back to the desk at 9.30pm so someone can escort me to fast track. We were asked to go rest at the FAAN customers service area with a/c and TV till I was ready to go in. Please take advantage of this so u Dont stand n sweat for nothing.

as a preggy, I was one of the first to board the plane. Food was good and crew very helpful. Slept throughout the journey and landed Heathrow 6.00am naija time. Went to freshen up and went to get my buggy ride. I was taken to a nice lounge to chill where i could charge my phones and eat but there was no shower. Then hunger set in. Used my zenith master card to quench it and the rate was good. When it was time, I was driven to my boarding gate for houston. While ppl were waiting I was fastracked and asked to board the plane first with the elderly n childrengrin really feeling special with my economy ticket.

then the 9 and a half hr journey began. I wore my compression socks cos my ankles were swollen after d lagos London journey. I must hv slept n woke up 50 times and we hadn't reached anywhere. I wanted to cry. For those flying with children I 'dobale' for una o. I just kept singing worship songs, playing sudoku and dozing off in between. We eventually landed and my wheelchair was waiting for me as I stepped out of the plane. Since we landed in the afternoon I knew lots of airlines would hv landed as well so there would be crazy queues so I borrowed my self brain and sat on the wheelchair. I was wheeled to the front of one of the queues.

Questions asked by cbp
What are you here for?
did u tell them at the embassy dat u were coming to give birth?
are you travelling alone?
how much do u hv on u? I had a little over 9000 She said I shouldn't bring out the money
what do u do?
did u bring food?
when did u get ur visa?
how long will u be staying?
can I see your ticket? They want to be sure it's not a one way ticket

Everything takes about 7 mins. she says it's okay but that her colleague will take me for secondary inspection.
I'm wheeled to secondary inspection n then I saw the crowd shocked then I began to thank God for wheelchair wisdom. They hand my file to a lady who keys in my details and passes it to some male officers. They r all laughing and deliberately delaying people but I later learn it's an act to study ppls behaviour. After 10 mins, I bring out my shiloh mantle and wipe my face 3 times. I no get time....i gat to activate my heavenly powers. Immediately the lady who keyed in my details gets up and rearranges the files, placing my file first and drops it for the officer. Next thing, they call me.

Questions asked
are you gonna be using reddington hospital? Of course not. That's my hospital in Nigeria.
What hospital will you be using? Whmc
Whose your doctor? Dr. Zimmerman (though I just used his letter for show)
how did u hear about him? Google
How much is he charging? 2600 for twins
And the hospital? The bill is with you.
i know but i need you to confirm? 4800 for cs.
how much do u hv? A little over 9000.
how did u come about the money? Btw i n my husband
Wot do you do?
What does your husband do? When i tell him he goes 'oooooh'.
It all ends in 5 mins.
Does some typing and stamps me in for 6 months. Don't forget to get all your receipts he says.

na so them wheel me to the carousel for my baggage and wheel me even up to my uncles car cos the Mexican woman wan collect tip. I get home and find in my box a body shop scrub dats not mine. Apparently they searched my box even though it was padlocked. Everything was intact even the food items I brought. Thanks anyway for the scrub it will remove the 'wowoness' wey dey my face.
dazall!

Thanks nairalanders.

My dear. Hubby called our sister in law in NJ and this was also the cheapest she got for us. After all my prep for Elpaso he is trying to change my plans to head to NJ cos of the stress of traveling again from NY to Houston and becos he feels comfy me staying with this SIL. Pls let me know if you get anything cheaper.

I did an extensive of search around the new York/new jersey area and Hackensack was about the cheapest I got. I would like to know if any other cheaper hospital comes up around this area.

I have been receiving a lot of PM with regards to my post on John Peter Smith hospital. I would appreciate if you could put these enquiries here just so that others to can benefit from these replies. I have learnt a lot from this forum and would like others to benefit several months down the line. Another reason is because I believe other people have used JPS too and might be able to profer answers to questions I might not be able to as I would be limited to only my personal experience. While I would continue to respond to PMs,I would appreciate it if you please put your enquires here.

@bj2012golf...how far? Was at the embassy on monday to notarize documents and saw a lot of people given visa, my mind immediately when to you. That embassy is so sane, compared to what we always face in lagos.

@suzyt wow @ ur Poe experience na wa for them I came in on Sunday and mine was short and smooth

CBP:morning
Me:morning compliments blah blah
CBP:how far along r u?
Me:3x
CBP:how much do u av
Me:Bleep
CBP:do u av a dr
Me:yes, shows dr's letter that he barely looks @
CBP:what do u do
Me:xxxx
CBP:stamps passport and says u an 6 months.
Me:smiles and bye

Security sends me in for secondary inspection cos of food stuff. When she was done she let me go.
No stress @ all,all the prayers and scabashing was not in vain grin
Suzyt:
15. Me: morning
Officer: what are you here for today?
M: for my holiday, to have my baby and do some shopping.
Off: how much do you have on you today ma'am?
M: $9901
Off: do You know you are allowed to bring more?
M: yes I do but I'm uncomfortable carrying so much cash and I have enough in my visa.
Off: ok please step aside. You will be going for secondary inspection.
M: ok.
16. Another officer comes, picks my passport and escorts me and some others to a separate room.
17. These people are psychologists. They keep you waiting for so long to get you anxious but all through keep calm and trust that all will be well.
18. After about 35 minutes, a lady calls me, asks me random questions then passesmy passports to her colleague. After another 25 minutes, colleague calls my name.
19. Me: hi
She: hi. What are you here for?
Me: same thing I told officer?
She: when did you get married?
Me: I answered
She: what do you and your husband do in Nigeria?
Me: I told her
She: how much did you budget for the birth?
Me: well, from the doctors estimate when I came here a few months ago, the price is this but I have budgeted triple of that and in the event of an emergency, my husband will join me with more funds.
She: ok. Just so you know, even if your bill is 100k you must not use Medicaid etc. you must pay all even if it means Setting up a payment plan.
20. She stamps me in for 6 months and I proceed to pick my stuff and head to customs.
21. She must have written something on my card because as soon as the customs guy views my landing card he points me to the customs secondary inspection room.
22. I was on the queue and busy chatting with O and telling him what was going on when one customs guy snaps at me "ma'am you should not be using your phone here!" I turn it off and place it in my bag.
23. After about 40 min, it was my turn. I was thoroughly searched by a lady. She went through every inch of my luggage amidst her advice that I must use epidural. Oh I forgot to mention that she also asked me the whole why are you here? Why give birth in the states etc questions. She helped me load all my stuff on the trolley after searching and wished me well.
24. That is my story o. It was long. We landed at 4:50am and I didn't finish the whole process until about 8:20. I connected to my final destination and here I am waiting for Baby's arrival.
25. Wishing you all the best. Do not lie. Keep calm. Be prayerful. All will be just fine. Amen.

Hi Santa2
How is wifey and the baby? I know u r really busy with the baby and all, please what doc did u use or did d hospital assign 1 to u?have u got ur zero balance letter yet?
Thanx

Santa2:

Natural is $4,500. CS is $5,500
Breakdown:
CS - 3,500 for the hospital (all inclusive)
Natural - 2,500 (all inclusive)

Doctors Fee - 2000 both natural and CS.

N.B: we are still to get a zero balance statement. So we set asides some funds for contingency (just in case we get a separate bill for paeditician and the rest). However all these are included in the contract.
