Ànd Idris Derby the dictator Of Chad has done countless things against Nigerian interests.

They provide safe haven to bokoharam to keep Nigeria busy.

Even if we are going to add them to the grid, we should get significant benefits in return along with cash.

A military base in the Chadian regions close to Borno, so that we can stop BH before they enter Nigeria.

Oga stop with the misinformation. Go and understand installed capacity vs. available capacity. This information has been around for awhile. How does it feel posting information that you have zero experience in? [s] It equates you to a liar and a thief, be guided. [/s]

I have just two questions for you:
1. Are the DISCOs not rejecting power?
2. Can you sell what you don't have to your neighbours?

This is not about big grammar but common sense

So how do they manage to transmit and distribute to the neighboring countries. Are they wirelessly transmitting the power to the other countries, cause this excuse for epileptic power supply in Nigeria is not adding up.

They will only transmit, distribution of the wheeled power inside Chad will be Chad's responsibility. They only need to connect Chad at a reliable, close point on the transmission grid and they're off. Financially inept Discos with connect have a monopoly as one Nairalander wisely opined and that is the major issue.

okay since we have large amount of power that can't be distributed why can't they Build and improve Our transmission
what's stopping them from Improving the distribution across Nigeria ?
Pricing, who will invest in a sector were there is no profit? only Government for social reasons, electricity generation, transmission, & distribution is a business for the private sector, the price of electricity will probably triple if it is fully deregulated, & handed over to a competent private sector, then NLC will call for nation wide strike, right now today we are at the mercy of quacks thanks to Jonathan Ebele.

You are 100% correct, what most people have failed to acknowledge is that we Nigerians are our problem, systematic incompetence from top to bottom. Please someone should tell me in the history of Nigeria one person that has gone to prison for mismanaging our electricity assets from Nepa days, to Phcn days, to now the worst these useless Discos & Generation Companies? After a generation of promises of electricity is coming, no electricity, who can we say the buck stops here, & we hold you accountable?

1. Off course they're rejecting power. It must be in the agreement they signed else why is NERC very quiet on DISCOS matter? Many of them should have lost their licenses by now but e be like say the legal matter pass NERC power.

2. Once again, of course. We are Nigerians, we do it all the time. It is a societal problem. Every Nigerian will jump at the opportunity to be a middleman, even when they have no idea what they are getting into. As long as Nigerians are involved in "deal" making with National assets there will be no respite in unnecessarily expensive commodities. Look at the PPAs some people have collected bribes and the rest of us are made to pay for it. Life is about Negotiation and Nigerian leaders are in the habit of short changing the populace.

I know some not many Nigerians who have refused Prepaid meters.

Prepaid meter is a hoax too.

Assuming your old bill is N100,000 before you installed prepaid meter, when you buy your prepaid voucher, they half whatever value you purchased. Assuming you buy N5,000 value of prepaid, once you load it, they cut off N2,500.

What is the explanation around it ? That you were owing N100,000 before you migrated to prepaid metering. They used the N2,500 to offset part of your old postpaid bill.

Man-know-man politics, lack of accountability and transparency, soft landing punishment for govt officials concerning national assets...until we change these ingredients the soup will continue to sour.

You said everything, people that have no business with electricity, are the ones controlling it, business men mostly in Hausa attires acting as middlemen hustling to make a profit to buy a new mikano gen for his house, and leave Nigerians in darkness.

This is sheer madness, you cannot distribute in your own country, but others could distribute in their countries. Just tell us that this country is too big to manage, there is enough food to feed your people, but you complain of lack of plates for even share, this is a mental case. This is one of the things they should have protested about.

It's sad. i agree they should have protested on that too but i assume they didn't understand it the way you do. Also many of them are bypass champions aka electricity thieves. Nice plate analogy by the way.

For Nigeria to transform its distribution sector, it will cost billions of dollars.

Selling excess power to countries that need it is actually a great way to raise the funds to pay for the building of our distribution infrastructure.

Maybe you should go for the word stranded in place of excess. I learnt "stranded" from nairaland o cheesy

It's pity u dnt understand the reason behind this connection. Nigeria is using River Niger to generate one of its power in kainji which has its source from other countries, they'll not construct dam for irrigation to avoid obstructing the generation and part of the then deal is to connect those countries with the power generated.
Please use current Egypt-Ethiopia tension which may escalate to war; Egypt is using Nile River for irrigation and has the largest irrigation system in the world, now Ethiopia is constructing dam which may hinder Egypt's irrigation system and they're already at cold war.
Many educated Nigerians have zero knowledge of governance and international relations that's why we always embarass ourselves in our comments including the well educated ones.

Why is Nigeria full of ignorant people. They fail to read or research and respond to only sensational news.
If you don't give Chad electricity. Chad will be forced to build a dam that will disturb our major sourcw of water( river Niger and benue)..

They have constant electricity, their transmission is up to par, thanks to the french, not these jagajaga you have in Nigeria, electricity is a business for the private sector, Nigerians don’t want to pay the international price, so you get what you pay for, get the pricing right for profitability, the private sector will fix the inadequacies, but Nigerians will not want to pay, the Military as a carrot to stay in office, subsidized everything for them, now today for them to pay the real cost for anything is a problem, they want it free, they even have a word for it “ awoof”.

Did you read and understand

If Chad have constant supply why will they want to connect to Nigeria for their electricity Need?
They don't have constant supply that is my take.

begin the supply of electricity to the North-Central African country soon.

THISDAY learnt that a meeting was recently between the Nigerian team and the Chad Minister of Energy, Mrs Ramatou Houtouin, who flew into Abuja in furtherance of the expected deal, while the Nigerian team was led by top officials of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

A few months ago, the Chadian ambassador to Nigeria, Abakar Chachaimi, had asked for his country to be connected to Nigeria's electricity grid during a visit to the Minister of Power, Mr. Sale Mamman in Abuja.

Chachaimi argued that connecting Chad to Nigeria's electricity grid would further enhance the historical and economic collaborations between both countries. If the agreement is eventually reached, Chad will add to the number of countries that depend partly on Nigeria for their electricity needs.

Much of Nigeria's generated electricity remain unused because the country is not able to distribute it as a result of poor transmission and distribution network, which has prompted it to sell to neighbouring countries.

Why not invest in transmission and distribution infrastructures. What's the issue with the policy makers in this clime.

That’s the mess created by Jonathan. He privatised the transmission and distribution companies. Government cannot fund private companies. Yet they cannot sack them because Jonathan gave a contract that tied the hands of present government from sacking them.

I think the government is taking your advice. The deal with Siemens is supposed to improve the distribution network.

Why do you try to explain away the STUPIDITY of the government.

You have a farm that is NOT able to feed your children and instead of concentrating your energy on this you are looking for buyers of your food believing and with the excuse that NEXT year, the rains will fall and you will get enough fertilizers and the labourers will not increase their wages and all will be well!

What do you think?

Even if Government have some agreement with Siemens, why not wait until we have enough to distribute?
