ignis: That you have never heard of local government roads don't mean they don't exist. InBtw, the present structure of local government has some measure of autonomy but because many have been led to believe that they are useless, they ride that perception to continue in their docility. We have to start holding all levels of government to account for true development to occur. |

The work of local government in Nigeria has been paralysed. What the local government are doing mostly these days is to generate revenue for the state and mobilize voters for elections. To issue Certificate of origin... They only time you see most staff of the local government is when the month is pregnant for a new Salary. Serious projects are not given to LG anymore in fact some states don't have LG again but caretakers. I support the restructuring and general overhaul of this feeding bottle administration practice by Nig. Let each state be the architect of it own misfortune/fortune. 1 Like |

jerseyboy: I don't agree with you at all. On the contrary LGAs aren't poor. They can actually achieve way more than you can imagine, in terms of youth capacity building programs, security and basic infrastructural developments, and sanitation. You want me to show you investments undertaken by persons who became LGA Chairmen for just under a year or slightly more? This is where we get it wrong. This is the root of our problems as a nation. Why would anyone want to exonerate persons in charge of governments at the very lowest level? The issue is; a chunk of these Chairmen are totally bereft of idea on how to generate fund, and are only wired to reep off the people of what already accrues to the LGA. Every LGA Chairman is tasked with figuring out how to generate sufficient resources with which to better the lots of his people. They only know how to 'chop'. And that's where the issue lies. They and the governors are the reason we are where we are today. Take it or leave it! The sooner we become smarter and choosier regarding who we make an LGA Chairman, the better for us all. We must come after these guys constructively and strategically, if Nigeria must get better. Even the campaign against police brutality that we all clamour could be extensively addressed by these Chairmen in their various LGAs. Enough of the irresponsibility and excuses for Council Chairmen. I am disappointed that anyone would be holding the brief for someone elected to do a job, and who is woefully failing at doing it. The fact that they are many....by that I mean everywhere, is the more reason to appreciate that they alone have the capacity and spread, to make or mar our society, both in terms of governance and development. 1 Like 1 Share |

And some Nigga in some other thread below this one said we ought not to be celebrating Wike over a well constructed fly over As the governor of this state has refused to tidy the roads or build flyovers, how many times has citizens of this state gone on a protest march at his government house Unlike this Governor, Wike was benevolent enough to build flyovers Therefore we will Thank Him. |
