The Lingering ASUU Strike And The Place Of Prof. Osinbajo, A Former ASUU Member. by emmasege: 3:41pm On Nov 01, 2020 |
It is no longer news that ASUU strike has lingered for nearly 8 months and the hope of our Federal universities re-opening this year is very dim. Is it no shame that this happened in a regime that has a former university Don and ASUU member as the nation's vice president? This is a big shame to the government of Buhari and Yemi Osinbajo in particular if they have one. If this goverment was sincere about ending the strike action, Osinbajo should be leading the peace talk meeting with ASUU by now but it appears they know that the introduction of IPPIS into the universities is wrong ab initio. They just need to force this IPPIS down the throat of ASUU and Osinbajo can't do that job. Considering the fact that this strike has lingered for so long at a time we have a former ASUU member in the presidency, one can say this is the worst government in Nigeria as far university education is concerned. NOTE: Let no one say Jonathan was the first ASUU member in the presidency. Jonathan only lectured in a college of education. He never lectured in UNIPORT where he graduated. 1 Like |

It is not only embarrassing that Osinbajo was a member of ASUU but he is also a Professor of Law and hence fully aware of the University Miscellaneous Provisions Act! Very embarrassing 2 Likes |

sarahkom: What would osinbajo do please? You people will never stop to amaze me. Is Osinbajo education minister? How do you people think this low ? And this osinbajo you call out has met with NASS leaders and boss mustapha. He need not sit down in the midst of ASUU members and FG Committee members at this time. Perhaps, what on ground is UTAS and IPPIS. |

The comments of Nairalanders at times shocks me. The collective amnesia of the Nigerian Society is on a hyper level. Most folks here have forgotten that both Goodluck Jonathan and Umaru Musa Yar'adua were both former lecturers of Higher Institutions in this country and Yet ASUU went on prolonged strikes countless times under their watch. Osinbajo is not the Labour Minister neither is he the Minister of Education. The Ignorance of most Nigerians like this OP about Governance and Governance structure is too notch. |

sinkhole: So what should he do? Ask FG to just call off the strike like that? It's low to think because he was a prof of law and a lecturer hence he should just ask them to call off the strike. Adam aliyu Oshiomele was a NLC and NLC went in strike and he didn't stop it. |

TheRareGem1:neither FG nor Osinbajo called the strike hence, they can not call it off (or suspend it), but Osinbajo with his knowledge of law, could have adviced the FG, on a legal basis, to reach a workable and legal agreement with ASUU and then that may enable ASUU to call off or suspend the strike! 2 Likes |

TheRareGem1:Of course he has no power to call off the strike but his views and opinions should have been well considered in recent meetings. As a matter of fact, he's supposed to be heading the government team at this stage of the negotiation but the cabals know they have no point really by introducing IPPIS, so they must shut out Osinbajo from the negotiation. 1 Like |

Some people can be funny on these forum, so Osinbajo should leave his official duties and be leading ASUU strike because he was a former lecturer ? What will now happen to his constitutional roles ? Mtweeeeeeew |
