Why cant we tolerate one another in this country
It's sad we couldn't.
This same set of people are those who accuse others of intolerance. If they could attack their own because of religion, then who are those that had no bond with them. Intolerant folks

There is nothing inciting about this speech. May God bless the man referred to in the video as Bishop Godfrey Igwebuike Onah for saying the truth. He clearly understands he is a country man first before he became a religious leader. Nigeria needs more courageous men like this religious leader!!!
A religious leader who is a professor (like i just found out bishop Onah is) is not a hungry man- he is fighting for the common people

Sharia law has been in the constitution since 1960. It is part of customary law.

Maybe we should now also have a law that upholds the right of Christians up East.

This is one of a series of videos posted by the Catholic Bishop of Nsukka, Most Reverend Godfrey Igwebuike Onah to his YouTube channel on October 21. The theme of the homily was about the End SARS protests and the situation of the country, but I believe that it is this particular clip, in which he talked about mosques in Nsukka and churches in the north, that offended a lot of people.

Anyway, I think some sections of the country think they own violence.
Many of the keke drivers were pursued from Northern Nigeria and all their goods and business razed to ground. Now, they came back to their fatherland, you still have the gut to stab one of them.

Many Christian's worship centers in the north have been burnt down, even most of their Pastors and priests killed. No one have been interrogated or arrested.
Now, in this case, State government have promised to rebuild the mosque and some are trying to make mountain out of mole hill. How many churches has they rebuild in the north?

Arrest him and see Nigeria collapse faster than you thought.

Everything Bishop Onah is true. What is false about it ?

The attempt to introduce Sharia into the south east by steatlh will never happen.

Keep your extremist religion to your own states.

Is it not clear that something is not right with this union? Is it not better Nigerians went their separate ways in peace. What the sultan and co are asking cannot be possible without serious altercations.

I see nothing wrong in this preaching.

These are issues that we need to address. The attacks should be investigated and culprits prosecuted but has nothing to do with the preacher simply doing his job - to speak the truth!

When the British came to Nigeria, they realised that they could not abolish our own native laws (customary law), so they accomodated it with some modifications.

Basically, customary law was reduced to governing issues such as marriage, inheritance, etc. Basically, personal law.

The customs and traditions in most Northern Nigeria at the time the British arrived was based on Sharia Law and so it became the customary law in the north.

There's also customary law in the south, based on things like marriage, inheritance, etc.

However, some northerners have been complaining since the 1960s that you can't separate Sharia Law into personal law and criminal law and that Sharia is one. Therefore, some northern governors introduced Islamic criminal law in the early 2000s. Some say that it is unconstitutional because Sharia was limited to personal law in the constitution.

Canon law was not part of Nigerian tradition and customs when the British arrived.
I see. Thanks for explaining.

But please tell me, if Sharia law applies strictly to Muslims, what right have the Hisbah police have to destroy alcoholic drinks when we 'know' Muslims are forbidden from taking it.

Let us get something clear. While the cleric is obviously a religious bigot. Customary law is not the constitution. It is a great dishonour to have Sharia, a religious law be part of the constitution of a secular republic. An abnormality does not become normal even if it has been the case since the beginning of time.

He is not a religious bigot.
