Can You Cook? by Imari(op): 10:15am On Mar 15, 2011
I have had this question asked of me by men many times since I've been here at NL.

So, now I ask it of the men here: Can you cook?

It came to mind that there are many instances when men should/could put on meals for their lady.

Like after having a baby, her birthday, Mothers' day (here in the U.S.,? if she's a mother and the kids are too young to cook),  breakfast in bed,  a home cooked surprise lunch together at work, a romantic (just because "I love you"wink dinner, etc.

For the ladies:

Do you find any of these or any other instances of your man cooking for you romantic?

Thank you all for any replies.

Hey Roymary

Where you at mah! homie? your lady is where.
So many Nigerian men have their ladies back in the kitchen.

That's good to know.

I was under the impression that many Nigerian men don't know how to cook since I seen such an emphasis put on if the lady could cook.

roymary finally pulled him someone?   Nice to know, but unfortunate for the lady.

Eating food cooked by men is sure romantic but most Nigerian men can only boil rice (who can't) but avoid local dishes

Possibly because they grew up having sisters and mothers slaving away in the kitchen for them. As for me, my son will know his way around the kitchen as soon as he is tall and old enough, I want him to be able to take care of his kitchen and not wait for anyone to do it for him. . . . . . . this is important to me!!!

They should always be prepared to fend for themselves in any case.

Re: Can You Cook? by ZIMDRILL(m): 12:42pm On Mar 15, 2011
first of all everyone can cook

the only thing is this what we cook can not be liked or loved by the person you are cooking for

so whoever wants to be cooked for has to teach the other person unfortunately some men are spoiled that they know what they want but cant cook that recipe i blame the mother she should have taught her child to cook her favourites

and that would be easy when he gets married/ or dating he can teach his woman  than taking his woman to his mom to be taught how to cook his favourites

teaching your partner to cook helps you to bound i.e those few minutes hours you spend teaching each other gives you time to be together etc

well that my thoughts

Re: Can You Cook? by SAGoddess: 12:58pm On Mar 15, 2011
Drill, I think the problem is when someone is not even willing to learn, that is the challenge. I was taught how to cook by a very patient man. . . . . . cheesy

then you have to find a way to make them understand that both of you need to teach each other what one likes and love including cooking each others favourite dishes

So you do know how to cook.

When I say "cook", I mean not being able to turn on the stove, they know your order at the drive thru window, that's not being able to cook.

Anything you can cook to FEED yourself is cooking enough.  Some men are totally handicap in the kitchen.

I do hope you don't mean "microwavable" because that isn't cooking either.  smiley

Maybe "everyone" can cook but can they prepare something that's edible even to them.

Believe me I know plenty men and women alike, who can't do even that.

Teaching each other your favorites is nice even when it's something that is known by both of you but vary slightly based on how one was taught to cook it.

Then sometimes (like I mentioned above) you may have the same recipe for a dish but I may use more pepper and you may not.  some folks actually think that their exact way of making a dish is the only and the right way.

I have a older sister whose like that, she will tell you it's not right if you vary from her recipe in the slightest.

What makes cooking fun for me is being playful about it and trying out different spices and ways to cook the food, it does not always have to come out the same *boring*

I love to cook and try new things, I have shelves of cookbooks just so I can experiment with something new at times, but  baking is what I really am in to completely and is always fun, pies, cookies, cakes biscuits I don't even buy those things from the grocery only the ingredients for making my own.
I spend more money on things for my kitchen then any other thing, without the right tools I would get frustrated with it, still can do but it's a bit of a bore for me.

I don't know how to bake *blush* I have learnt how to make home-made bread but that's about it. . . . .there was not much baking at home when I was growing up so I just never learned how to. . . . . .

I taught myself.

As a teen I knew I didn't like canned biscuits so I followed the recipe on the flour bag, they came out some good so I started following some of the other recipes and off it went.

I've had a lot of trial and error with everything from cooking to baking but at least you know what not to do next time  smiley

If you don't mind, what are some of the baked sweets in Nigeria? and men who do cook do they also bake? as I see baking sweets for each other can be very romantic also, sweets for my sweet so to speak.

I guess if I got the home-made bread right, I can try the others too, trial and error is the way to go. . . . .
