Na today! I had to go to referenced newspaper to ascertain the veracity of this story.

As a B.Sc holder with 2.2 and without any kind of certificate in Education, yet, I have not met anyone, irrespective of grade - first class or second class upper - who has delivered better than me in my few years as a classroom teacher.

I am going to say it as it is.

This new policy will accomplish zilch in our Education system. As most people know, people who are willing to tell themselves and others the truth, teaching goes beyond qualifications. This is not company job.

What the government needs to do is to fix the economy. Create enabling environment for different fields to thrive. Create job opportunities so that only those who truly have the passion for teaching - irrespective of field - will apply for teaching jobs. As far as this country is concerned, simply because a person studied physics education or chemistry education neither means such person can really teach physics or chemistry well in the classroom nor teach physics or chemistry better than a person with B.Sc. Na from experience I dey talk so.


Another thing is moral fibre. A person without moral fibre, be it first class or second class upper, cannot produce the "desired" result. Desired result in quote because each government knows the result they want achieved. Are we not talking about teaching nursery, primary and secondary school pupils.

Hiring only first class or second class upper will not fix the rot in our Education system. It will accomplish nothing.
