FG, Governors Blame #EndSARS Protests, Banditry For Hike In Food Prices by iwaeda: 11:18pm On Nov 19
The Federal Government and state governors on Thursday resolved to put measures in place to address the hike in food prices being witnessed across the country.

The resolution was made at a virtual meeting of the National Economic Council presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

The council, which is chaired by the Vice President, has all state governors and relevant ministers as members.

According to Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, the resolution was made after a presentation by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Agriculture, Dr Andrew Kwasari.

Akande said from the presentation, the council noted that food prices have changed between September and November involving commodities in Lagos and a few randomly selected states.

He said the council also identified “causes of the hike in food prices to include delay in going out to farm, which translates to delay in harvesting courtesy of COVID19 pandemic; EndSARS protest stalled food transportation and delivery and in some instances destroyed food stores; banditry in the North West effectively preventing farmers from harvesting fields cultivated; farmers/herders conflict destroyed farm produce in some states, and increased cost of transportation”.

On resolution, Akande said, “States and FG were urged to adopt urgent measures including social protection schemes to deal with the situation.

“The FG will also pursue the implementation of its ESP -Agric plan and others to positively improve the situation in the sector.”

Akande said the council also received presentation from the Federal Road Safety Commission on the Nigeria Road Safety Strategy 2021-2030.

He said the strategy was an update to the maiden road safety strategy (NRSS: 2014 – 2018) developed in 2013 in response to a call for global action on road.

Akande said the council also received report on COVID-19 from the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu.

He added that the 2020 Finance Bill that was approved by the Federal Executive Council was presented to NEC.

He also said the council was briefed on ongoing engagements with youths in states.

“Council resolved that the planned zonal engagements should proceed with the focus on youths and Civil Society Organisations dealing especially with issues or jobs, and employment.

“Similarly, the states level interactions should proceed in places where this has not been reported,” he added

There are myriads of reasons that leads to hike in price in which even the most bereft professional should point out.

1) Increases or high cost of inputs/Production. eg Food

2) Transportation and logistics cost. Daily traders would understand when transportation is about 30% of the cost.

3) Non implementation of policies and renegaded promises. All talk with no action.

4) Ineffective regulation.

5) Before protest, the rate of increase in prices was unabatedly unprecedented especially when all lower denominations becomes useless.

When the preferred isn’t available, the available becomes the preferred- this was our major undoing. This time, the preferred will be elected. Who is the preferred? A competent, efficient and God fearing leaders who will turn the affairs of this country around. Someone who isn’t given to ethnic jingoism, race, colour, age, gender etc. An objective man

Things won’t work if square pegs are forced upon a round hole.

Just as the minister of finance said that "rising cost of transportation is responsible for the inflation" being currently experienced. Now a whole VP is blaming #EndSARS/banditry for increased cost of foodstuffs as if this problem was not there before now. They are always pushing blame & never accepting responsibility-not even for once.

So endsars increased fuel prices?
Endsars closed our land borders?
So these thieves don't know that these cruel and wicked policies have a chain reaction effect on the economy including food prices?
Anyway, I know they know, they are just saying this rubbish to give their Zombies something to romance with.

When would Nigerians stop using this political term 'BANDITS' and call these people what they truly are... CRIMINALS

Our political elites are wiser than a bunch of us all, before the 2015 elections, any case of kidnapping and violence was attributed to TERRORISTS, CRIMINALS, BOKO HARAM, KIDNAPPERS, ETC

As from 2015 when the new government came in and saw what was on ground, every case of kidnapping and violence has been watered down to mere BANDITRY, THUGGERY and HOODLUMS.

Let's emancipate ourselves from the political schemes of Nigerian leaders, they know how to use psychology on the masses by substituting the real issue with less menacing terms while the problem still lingers.

Let's stop using the terms BANDITS, HOODLUMS in exchange for the actual reality on ground... TERRORISTS, CRIMINALS, KIDNAPPERS, BOKO HARAM, etc.

It was a psychological approach to remove all these terms from Nigerian consciousness.

These TERMS will be returned when power changes hand...

This Political Brainwashing must stop..

The first week of the protest was heroic but the subsequent week where the protests were hijacked in some states causing looting, destroying of both government and private properties which includes shops, factories etc. Aftermath of this will trigger hike in price of course and hardship.
