The president circumvents rendering accounts for his handling of national security, especially his defiance to sack service chiefs.

President Muhammadu Buhari has backed out of a meeting with members of the House of Representatives, Peoples Gazette can report based on emerging information from the presidency and parliament.

The president was initially scheduled to meet with House members to take questions about his administration’s handling of security, as widespread kidnapping, armed banditry and Boko Haram deadly exploits heightened fears of a beleaguered national security leadership.

Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila announced last week that the president had agreed to meet with the House in the wake of the horrific massacre of scores of farmers in Nigeria’s war-ravaged Borno.

The president’s meeting with parliamentarians was scheduled for December 11, during which he would be taking questions from enraged and, mostly young, lawmakers.

But the meeting has now been called off, sources told the Gazette, amidst fears that the president could be exposed as too frail to govern or not mentally-aware at worst.

Earlier on Tuesday, presidential sources said, some top allies of the president, led by Nasir El-Rufai, had taken on Mr. Gbajabiamila during an APC national caucus meeting with the president, multiple sources at the meeting said.

They accused the Speaker of losing control of the House, saying he should not have agreed to let the president be railroaded into a meeting with all lawmakers to give accounts of his leadership amidst widespread chaos.

“The president was at the meeting, but he said nothing, which showed that he supported El-Rufai’s scolding of the Speaker,” a presidential source said.

The cancellation would now allow the president to circumvent rendering accounts for handling of national security, especially his enduring defiance to sack service chiefs who are largely deemed incompetent.

Presidential spokespersons were reached for comments Tuesday night, but they did not immediately reply. A spokesman for Mr. Gbajabiamila could not be reached for comments.

This is something I’d earlier predicted two days ago.

Amotolongbo:
To be sincere, I don’t see Buhari coming to the Green Chamber to address the issue.

They will likely spark up something which will be used as excuse for Buhari not attending the meeting.

If Buhari will appear at all, he won’t be allowed to be drilled by the opposition members of the house. He will just read his paper and leave.

I always knew the presidency had a trick up their sleeve to pull.
Imagine an elected public office holder, defying a summon by the National Assembly.
This is total disrespect for the institutions in Nigeria, yet they will except the citizens to obey the same institutions.

This is where the opposition needs to come in. PDP should mobilised its members in the house to commence impeachment proceedings. All they need is 1/3 to start the process, then they should wait and see how some not so happy APC members go join the bus by either forcing the president to dance to their tune or send out the party.

Stupid and senseless write up from idle and unemployed blogger. Was the meeting cancelled or that the president will now meet with the joint session of the national assembly on Thursday being tomorrow on the same issue? Or are you saying that after meeting with the both houses tomorrow on the same issue, he should still schedule a separate meeting with the Reps? That's to say he has become so idle that he doesn't have anything else to do. This is how you people go about misleading gullible members of the society.

I said it in an earlier thread that d Bubu we know can never appear physically to take questions from d House and wud rather hire 70 SANS to challenge the invitation to address d parliament.
