This is the real issue. The sustainability of Nigeria is up in the air. I know a lot of well to do people that could live comfortably in Nigeria but are still moving. Executive Directors in banks, oil company staff etc.

The main thing that would make me relocate now is security and long term viability of Nigeria cos the country just doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

It is not a question of "doesn't seem", take it from me "it isnt". it is the sentimental attachment to Nigeria that prevents many of us from seeing what is right in front of us.

If you look at the history of Nigeria, it has been going backward since 1966. The effects were first hard to see because of the institutions left behind by the British were still keeping us going.

My advice to any Nigerian especially the young. Seek greener pastures abroad before you are too old to relocate, you can always visit if you are homesick.

Nigeria will kill your soul!!

My Sister. You made a wrong decision. Now that you have stayed back, have u changed Nigeria?

Next time, when an opportunity like that comes your way, please take it.

If u were in Canada or America practising medicine, you would have been earning far more than what your currently earning in Nigeria. Then you can now come back and develop this country with your brains and resources.

Northern muslims hardly migrate to a foreign country to stay permanently.. it's very hard to see that happening because they know In Nigeria, the quota system will favor them as compared to western countries...

One thing I am sure is that she is from a wealthy family, so there is no need leaving the country to start again in a foreign land

She is from a wealthy family. No think am. Did my research from her Twitter page.
She is even into politics.

Did you not apply for that “opportunity”? People like this always talk like the opportunity just came out of nowhere.

You applied and were qualified so they accepted you. You then decided not to move, in which case, why apply to begin with if your plan was always to stay and die in Naija??

Second twitter responder is wrong. Choosing to remain in Nigeria isn’t dependant on affluence. I have personal experience of this. We've brought over to the Uk several distant relations that live poorly (as poor as majority that live poorly in Nigeria) and they have not liked Britain at all. They all returned. One of them had the option of marrying someone in order to remain in Uk, she too declined and returned to Nigeria. Reading articles by Nigerians complaining of Nigeria and calling Nigeria hell and giving the impression that abroad is heaven, I sometimes wonder if I’m the only Nigerian whose relatives are totally uninterested in Abroad.

I was actually thinking of creating a thread on this.

What exactly do people mean by "stay back or return back to contribute to the country"?

It's easy for this lady as she's a doctor.. she feels content and comfortable even though her wages and living conditions are quite substandard compared to her counterparts in other countries...

she's a typical Nigerian who has the thought process of 'as long as I'm comfortable, everyone else can go to hell' ...

..what about millions of Nigerian youths who studied other courses in uni and haven't been able to get a job? Young people wasting away with no hope for the future..
They should all start businesses right? What businesses if I may ask? Hair dressing, poultry, small chops and farming? The government has no plans for the future of its youths.

Those who believe that it is the citizen's job to fix Nigeria, please what is our government there for? what is their responsibility?

She's not a 'typical' Nigerian.

She's just a Nigerian who has chosen to remain home and not travel abroad.

A government is a reflection of its people. If the government is bad, then ultimately the people are bad, because the government is elected by the people. If the people remain quiet amidst poor governance, then they are as complicit as the government itself.

If you desire to travel abroad, you should take the opportunity.

But don't question the motives or decision of those that want to 'take it back.'

It's not like 20% of the entire youth population can successfully migrate abroad. The 80% had better start taking their future into their hands and stop leaving it in their great grandfather's grasp.

But the North also has the greater number of poor Nigerians, right?

Apparently your hypothesis is not really consistent.
Since their poor should be more desperate to leave.

OR could it be that there are other cultural /social reasons to their decision to stay?

God bless her. Some people are so frustrated, it's not a bad thing that she's privileged enough to be able to stay. Those who have the means to stay in Nigeria can choose to stay and we should be grateful for them.

No matter how wealthy you are you are just one evil kidnap from dropping to middle class, not to speak of the trauma. Then of course the Beef between the haves and have nots in Nigeria is not in this world, you cant even be comfortable in peace. Then standing near are the health issues and misdiagnosis from hospitals, not to talk of Lai Mohammed, Shehu and Femi whose comments worsen situation. Then the continuous weakness of the Naira which depletes the earning power of Nigerians. Leave now if you can and return when it starts to get better , you wont have missed much. In summary as far as Nigeria is concerned, try to have a choice!

Wow im actually suprised you came to this conclusion from just what she said!

Have u ever seat back and think of who will take care of the teeming masses that cant afford to move, in terms of medical requirements?

why are we like this in this country now?

This is an opinionated topic, and i think we are not fair on her- we cant conclude that shes from a rich family... based on what data?

Do u know what it takes to manage an ordinary maternity home in this country?

Do u know the high rate of motality?

This is very bad!

You mentioned the govt! are these pple aliens?

Govt is made up of you and me o....
