A socio-cultural and political group for the Yorubas people, the Yoruba Patriots Movement (YPM), and Pan-Yoruba socio-political group Afenifere, on Wednesday, insisted on zoning 2023 presidency to the South-West to avoid a crisis.

The South-West group contended that the Constitution of the nation only recognizes three areas of North, West and East; saying that Obasanjo has represented the Yoruba, Jonathan had ruled for the East while Buhari is currently representing the North.

They informed members of All Progressives Congress (APC) to respect pre-2015 elections to guarantee fairness and equity avert a possible crisis in the country.

Speaking yesterday in Ibadan at a press conference heralding a Yoruba summit tagged: “Yoruba nation yesterday, today and tomorrow” the YPM National Coordinator, Mr. Oladosu Oladipo said anything aside from Yoruba president in 2023 won't go on without serious consequences.

Very dishonest and treacherous people. In 1914, Nigeria had two regions i.e North and South. Before 1960, we had 3 regions i.e North, East and West. It later became 4 regions after the referendum that resulted in the Midwest region. By the time Nigeria transitioned in 1999, we had 6 regions, i.e SW, SS, SE, NW, NC and NE. Again, Obasanjo ruled for 8 years since the return of democracy yet the legacy he left behind was the destruction of Odi in Bayelsa and Zaki Biam in Benue State because they're minorities while he allowed Sharia law to take over in the core North because he was afraid of Hausa/Fulani Muslims. Worse still, he wanted to bribe legislators to allow him to manipulate the constitution so he can become a life president.
