This comparisons between the prize money for BBN and rewards for academic excellence is not really necessary. We can talk about the need to improve rewards for academic excellence without trying to demonize entertainment with the arguments. Entertainment and sports bring in good money! That's the fact! Another fact you may not like is that nudity sells! I mean worldwide. So many times I see folks complaining bitterly about some entertainment topics on the front page. What they seldom notice is the huge amount of readers on those pages. Flesh sells. Folks instinctively want to see. It's the natural instinct that drives a warped humanity and bloggers and advertisers know. There is a reason why the best footballer or boxer from Nigeria earns more than the most erudite professor from Nigeria! Even though they don't even reside in Nigeria! Entertainment generates money because people like to be entertained! So people go to places they will be entertained and pay heavily to be entertained. People responsible for unleashing maximum entertainment deserve serious pay the same way productive academics deserve decent pay. You can tax the television companies or the actors/actresses/sports men to raise more fund to incentify more academic pursuit, BUT YOU SHOULDN'T demonize the entertainment industry in the process because apart from the huge money it makes for the economy, it also provides a lot of people with lucrative livelihood. 7 Likes 1 Share |

I’m honestly wondering the role BBN played in the write-up other than grabbing attention. Nigerian journalists honestly do not update themselves. If they did, they’ll realize that BBN is not all about nudity. Most times the winners hardly engaged in the “immoral” aspects of the show despite our people repeatedly saving “immoral” contestants to keep us entertained till the final days. 1 Like |

All the academic excellence sef, how had it helped Nigeria? The brilliant ones who manage to get lucky leave Nigeria and don't bother to come back. BBN is a waste of time but at least it is useful to Nigeria. Sanwo Olú did a nice job with those gifts sha |

Rugaria:I repeatedly mention that if Multichoice was a Nigerian company then their DStv service would remain analog, non High Definition and broadcast only six channels as opposed to the hundred plus available at the moment. Nigerians are sanctimonious and allergic to change. We believe every aspect of life should appear serious at all times when that is the quickest route to HBP, burnouts and depression. 2 Likes |

obicoolnino: Not just our politicians, but our society in general. BBN thrives because some people watch it& give it relevance. Shows like who wants to be a millionaire have gone off d air because it doesn't get as much viewership as BBN. People even spend serious money to vote for their preferred candidates on BBN. Cowbell has a maths show. Don't think it's still airing. There used be a school quiz show on nta, but who would watch it or support it? 4 Likes |

Re: Between BBN And Academics: ₦5m To Celebrate Nudity, ₦5M For Mental Excellence by adonainana: 6:48pm On Jan 10, 2021 |
One is purely academics The other is entertainment, Academic encompasses a study of work or a research into a particular line of enquiry. Entertainment industry is the opposite, it encompasses everything in relation to anything not educating whatsoever Just like you watching tv, movies, listening to songs etc, concerts, carnivals, owanbes, No one cares if you finished 1st class You finished first clsss for your self and to enable get a good job or whatever reasons For you to be number one on BBN also means you are the first class entertainer everyone is looking for No one owes you anything in life, so Nigerians need to stop with the hypocritical laycoon got this first class got this They belong to two different industries Entertainment industry is worth more than the education sector for reasons said above, its been like that since the world started Shalom 2 Likes |

Myer:What everyone fails to realize is that entertainment is a business, academics is not. If an entertainer is paid 50 million today, be rest assured that they're making at least 150 million off of him. A graduating student is generating exactly zero Naira in revenue. It's simple economics, not morals at play. 7 Likes |

Mental excellence is only valuable when it creates value to society and humanity. Nobody just gives u money because of ur brain power or academic record that’s not yet useful to anyone and anything. U must translate it to Value. Bbn/Bba which is reality Entertainment is of some value to it audience or else it won’t generate money. Nobody pays for what’s not of value to them. Call it nudity that’s ur opinion and doesn’t change anything. Reality tv is just like soccer which boys like bt gals don’t. Everybody isn’t supposed to like it. Ur report sheet/certificate is of no value till it can be applied to Smtn to create value for people. Life and society have different aspects. Spiritual stuff, religion have their own value and that’s why it’s become money making and abused by some. 3 Likes |
