…“I will work till my last day as VC AE-FUNAI”

Monday, January 25, 2021 was yet another busy working day for the action and never-get-tired exiting Vice-Chancellor, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Prof. Chinedum Uzoma Nwajiuba.

Commenting on the outgoing Nwajiuba administration, observers from within and outside the University community have recently opined that “the more his exit date approach, the more he doubles effort at work”. What a visionary leader, committed and in a hurry to take the young University to World Class.

He started work for the day with inspection of work going on at the convocation arena, from where he went to lunch action on building a new library for the University. This is in fulfillment of his promise that “I will build a new library here before I go”. You will recall that the Ibidapo Obe Library, built before the inception of the Nwajiuba administration, was put out of use and abandoned since 2019, due to the heavy rain storm that damaged the building. Director, Physical Planning, Works and Service, Dr. Iheanacho Ezeocha and his Deputy Engr. Nwali Eche where on ground to lead VC and his entourage to the new library site, beside the Ibidapo Obe Library, where site clearing and layout commenced in earnest. The site Engineer was there to provide all the explanations and action plan.

Next for the day was opening up of access roads to link other parts of the campus where some new blocks of building for Faculties and Centres have been sited. This took Prof. Nwajiuba and team to the extremes of the Campus in a growing garden. VC even had to mount a motor bike to get to the other side. Tractors were deployed to site to create the access roads with immediate effect.

VC and his company also visited parts of the University including the very recently commissioned Office Complex beside the New Faculty of Law, School of Postgraduate Studies, Some classrooms, eateries, and the old Administration Block. As the movement went on, Prof. Nwajiuba interacted with staff and students, monitoring and ensuring that there was full compliance to COVID-19 protocols.
