Aconomist: Where are the standard gauge rail lines designed to run along this bridge? Will it not be most economical to build the rail lines at the same time the bridge is built? That route for rail lines is the most traveled and economically most viable for rail lines in Nigeria. Reminds one of when NITEL Digital telephone exchanges were first built in less business northern towns while the most busy towns in the south struggled with moribund Analog telephone exchanges. NITEL DIED.

It's not possible they finish it now.... It will be intentionally delayed and finished around 2023 so as to be used as a political project. Moreover, GEJ administration started this project very close to the end of his administration. Do you want him to finish it in 2 years, something this administration didn't even finish in 6 years and counting? 1 Like |

Aconomist: It would have been cool to do this without mentioning Jonathan. If you add with the federal government make at the end of the year and what they have borrowed then you will be talking about massive amount which cannot be compared with Jonathan administration. And who is deceiving you that oil was always sold at that price. |

thatigboman: A friend of mine who is part of the construction team told me that it's impossible for it to be completed within the tenure of the current administration, so I wonder where the op is getting the almost completed version from. |

Good to see the bridge at this stage. but there is a misstep to your information. In 2014, the project is being constructed under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) scheme. A Consortium JB-NSIA, is working on the project on the basis of Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT), at a total cost of N108 billion. The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) reviewed the concessionaire’s cost of N138 billion down to N108 billion. The project phases will be constructed under Engineering, Procurement and Construction contracts awarded by the Federal Ministry of Works (FMW). The bridge project has a development and completion time-frame four years from financial close – point at which private capital is successfully raised. The GEJ Government committed to contribute N30 billion (28%) of the project cost. The remaining 72% will be raised by the Consortium under a 25-year concession. The Federal Government has so far committed N18.31billion. Out of this, N10.4 billion has been disbursed leaving a balance of N7.94 billion. A team of local and international consultants was engaged through a rigorous and competitive procurement process. The NSIA has spent the sum of $2.21 million on consultancy and another $247,586 on due diligence to determine project viability. The first-class advisory services are required to enable the project reach financial close – the point at which private capital is successfully raised. GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT Aconomist: 1 Like |
