He Wants To Dump Law For English Education by Bodyodour: 10:28pm On Jan 31, 2021
A friend just decided to change from law to English education. His reasons are:

-law will take most of his youthful age(considering ASUU and 1 year of law school)

-with English, he can be able to travel and teach abroad, asia precisely. And he can be able to explore the world.

- lawyers are not well paid here and it will be difficult to travel to Europe with it.

I hope he is not making a mistake?

The guy is smart and well informed. This is not the 70's where professions such as Law and Engineering are automatic tickets to financial freedom. It is really unfortunate that some people are pursuing Law because of the prestige associated with it. One of my Neighbour who studied Law for 7 years is currently working as a sales rep. earning 25k monthly. He graduated 5 years ago.

Parents should stop pressuring their children to study all these traditional courses. The world is progressing. Many of these traditional courses will soon become obselete.

Courses such as English, Chinese, Computer Science are more lucrative and has more prospects than many courses our parents force us to study.

Leaving Law for English is like refusing to drink champagne because you like cheap beer.
If lawyers are not well paid, is it teachers that are well paid?

With English he would have a lot of opportunities staring at him. Language area is a core consequential part of man in any given society. He should follow his heart. If he can run his master, and perhaps, PhD in overseas, he won’t regret his choice.

Intelligent is different from heavy books..
You might be intelligent and still not interesting in subjects or course with long study term or periods..

I believe everyone should do what makes them happy. Many people go into courses like law, medicine, engineering etc for societal and family prestige, no clear career path and end up among the Jones.
Your friend is already thinking 10years ahead, he is wise. Indeed with English language, he could teach in Asia and Europe. He could even minor in a European language which would open many doors for him.

Law is not "Looku rathief" these days.

They now serve as house agent or whatever.

Your friend made the best decision

Lol. Seriously? I don't believe your friend o. But then, things aren't always as we imagine. I'll advise he see the law through. He'll likely regret dumping law for English edu if the Asia plan doesn't pan out as expected

When we see Olodo we dey know!
Almost everything you can do with your English degree you can also do with your LL.B. or any other degree in the arts. but if you don’t have an LL. B., there’s nothing that can take it place.

If indeed he wants to travel abroad to lecture. He needs an advance degree. He can as well lecture law-related courses.

Is not ones decision that matter ,is the reason for the decision, he has a sound reason for his decision, law can limit him here but with English he can teach in many Asian and european countries

He gets a lot of things wrong.

If his motivation for law was on the payment of salary - he is quite short sighted.

It is quite myopic to leave a Professional course for a normal degree.

The day you become a lawyer - you have been equipped to work and make money for yourself!

The first few years is just to learn the ropes, after 3 years - any smart lawyer should be making his money for himself.

Anyways best of lucks to the Friend, no course is useless.
