Ebelechukwu Agbapuonwu aka Salwa Ed Naser was a child prodigy from Anambra state. She is a world champion today representing Bahrain.

There are many like her.

Francis Obikwelu won lots of medals for Portugal after issues with AFN,
Glory Alozie won silver at the Sidney Olympics for Nigeria but left for Spain later.

Remember Ebelechukwu Agbapuonwu whose name is now Salwa Eid Naser. She was a child prodigy like this gymnast but never appreciated by Nigeria. She represents Bahrain now and she is a world champion in 400m.
Omo this country is not even worth calling father's land... just read about those athletes, and they are doing damn good

This is serious.

As usual, Ipobians will blame the north and Tinubu for this.

Doesn't she have a state governor?! Doesn't she have a LGA chairman?! Doesn't her state have an agency for sports?! Do they not claim that they have many multimillionaires?!

I won't be surprised if it's Wike that will still sponsor this girl.

Ipodians are ungrateful lots. See how we all rooted for NOI, but in the end they tried to celebrate her as a Igbo woman not Nigerian.

If we sponsor this girl too, they'll end up removing the Nigerian from her and celebrating her as an Igbo girl.

Yet, they're the ones always shouting tribalism. Tribalism kee every Ipodian pig.

Common to sponsor small girl like this, them no fit. If na to burn Lagos, dem go dey flex muscle. Fire burn all evil minded arsonists.

You're a very UNREASONABLE person.

Bahrain also earns far more than Nigeria.

Bahrain produces 63889 barrels of oil per day for 1.65million people. Nigeria has 211 million peo[ple and lives on 2.3million barrels per day.

Which translates to a percapita GDP of 23, 503 for Bahrain. Nigeria has a percapita GDP of 2,289 (all US dollars).

Portugal and Spain have higher per capita GDP than Nigeria, and are actively exporting industrial countries. Nigeria relies on oil, and overimports, and due to fluctuations in the oil price is in debt.

We could change all that, but the sad thing is both parties don't support polices that would change our economy from oil dependency to industrial and higher tax dependency

I’m talking about talent discovery, developing, nurturing and supporting the talents that you have.
Kenya and Ethiopia are good in long distance races. Both countries do well at the top level. Are they economically better than Nigeria? Jamaica is good in athletics, are they richer than Nigeria? Cuba does well in boxing. Are they richer than Nigeria?

See the future about to waste away.
The money for Buhari’s haircut alone will send this girl places.
By 14-16 she should be ready for Olympics.

And you know why SA has the funds to pay for her

1. High tax to gdp ratio. 28.4%..which means they can fund their sports better than Nigeria..5.8%

2.Industrial and diversified economy....again big revenue for their government.

3.Better funding for their education.

Here in Nigeria, IF we even talk about raising taxes to the level of SA....there would be cries of 'We are poor'...yet that is how the richer nations afford sponsoring sports.

Many Nigerians think we should be like Saudi...when Saudi produces 5 times more oil than we do, and has 30 million people...compared to our 200 millionn
Before you raise tax.. Should there not be infrastructure n certain things in place.
They did increase tax here in 2018.. Don't know if there'd been any other increase

The athletes you mentioned left Nigeria because money.

Even Kenya and Ethiopia have athletes leaving them for other countries

Jamaica is economically better than Nigeria.

Cuba spends a large chunk of its budget on sports. Thats why they do well.

Also Nigeria is not a rich nation. Until our government gets us off our oil dependent state
