ThePlainTruth [If you leave a job because of lack of promotion you felt you deserved due to your achievements and then few years down the line the same company sets up an interview for you to come and work as contractor and you will be working with the person they gave the promotion to instead of you which made you to leave the company in the first place.

Would you attend such an interview?

DONT EVEN TRY IT, LET IT GO AND SEARCH FOR NEW OPPORTUNITIES OR ELSE THIS IS WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR :
INDIRECT FRUSTRATION, EXCESSIVE QUERY AND COMPLAIN.

Contract staff or contractor.

Keep an open mind, allow people to give diverse opinion.
Keep your likes and dislikes to yourself.
I will charge them X 50 if need be. Make sure you make the contract favour you.
The organisation sounds like one that applauds mediocrity. Charge them massively and move on afterwards. They need you, make them pay for it.

But what if they just want to use you to gain the knowledge they need on how to solve the challenges they have and then ask the contractor to leave? This new experience will be worse than the first one. They might even use the interview to gain this knowledge they need for the work without offering the contract.

Which knowledge do you have that you think ure the only one that has

Yes. When it comes to business, career, work and other related matters. Leave sentiments, emotions out of it.

For the company to invite you for such opportunities, it ,means you are of value to the company. So you need to negotiate for better deals!!!

Ask them is it a Job briefing or job interview when they ask questions in details

If you have them covered and they need you to pull a duty with someone you should be supervising, then make them pay for it or lose the contract. Push them to the full limit by ignoring the interview and if they still reach out to you...clip them!!

All or nothing!!

You dont let out/render your expertise/your service during interview. You only indicate your capacity to deliver.

As per use and dump you. Make sure you dont sell yourself cheap. Ensure there is contract to be signed for this engagement and charge the appropriate fees for the service such that if they decide to terminate the contract, you will not feel cheated. This is Nigeria where everybody wants to cheat, so you have got to be smart and wise.

I would, BUT NOT AFTER READING THE CONTRACT IN DETAIL. Understand what is in black and white, separate the 'unspoken' intangibles from that on paper, observe their 'body language', demand they leave you alone (they would not seek you out if you didn't have something of value to offer them) to do your job, deliver what is stated as the end result they want to see and Get out of there (meaning keep it professional through and through) If they swindled you once, THEY CAN DO IT AGAIN.
Re: Would You Attend This Type Of Interview? by nnemak(m): 2:43pm On Feb 22, 2021
Before you attend the interview consider the following:
1. Since you left them years ago, what's your current status ? Are you still job hunting or in a less place?
2. Did you initiate this interview invite? Did you apply for it? Did you push for it?

If yes to question 1 and 2, then by all mean give it a shot.
But when you do, consider the following:

1. Be very very professional, dont give complete answers to real questions.

2. When or if they eventually onboard you, be careful and ensure you protect your knowledge as much as possible while fully looking for another employment from day-in.

3. Organisation only change with leadership, do they still have the same management you ran away from?

But if you are very comfortable in your present position, then send a thank you mail to them and cheerfully declined the invite

What should be your primary concern is if they will pay adequately for the services.

If you have specialised knowledge which the company needs then make sure you bill them heavily and collect a significant amount as upfront payment before you even start the job

If you think they want to use and dump you, give them your condition first, charge them for the service you think you will render,
How much will someone pay you to coach him? Charge them for that, if they can pay you, then you accept the offer and do your job.

Your answers to the interview question should be more of the things they already know about you, because you have worked for them before,. Don't give them informations you think they want from you.

Thanks

You would have to make a paradigm shift from being a worker now contractor to an entrepreneur, that is create a value that will always make them come back to you at a price that will be suitable to you. Eg bill per your time or by every advice that works; or by being a problem solver.
You could also make it a one-off transaction, get some good sum for it, and wait for the next job.

You can attend and ensure you raise your demand very high. Obviously, there is certain knowledge or skill they want to tap from you. They will just attach some people with you to understudy you, or they may come out openly by telling you that you are going to train someone or two certain things during you contract period. All you need to do is to raise your demand, and if they cannot pay, leave their job. In most cases, they will call you back and start negotiating.
