Is DSTV a government ministry or is it a private one?

They should worry about enablers for the Nigerian economy - logistics, quality of roads, security, access to food etc

This makes no sense to me. Is DSTV a problem, if it is too expensive - people will stop buying it and they will be forced to correct it.

That will lead to massive job losses in the industry

Price controls are detrimental to any economy

Exactly

I agree with your last paragraph. I know people who have switched to Startimes when their dstv got too expensive for their pockets

Thumbs-up Mr Mohammed.
Na man u be.

Okay so would you support government controlling and setting the prices of the things you grill to the point where you can't make a profit.?

This is bad news for businesses. Because if they are forcing dstv today to reduce prices tomorrow it could be small businesses like yours that they will target next.

Anything these lawmakers put their hands usually go up! These lawmakers have outlived their relevance. If they are serious, they should start first with PETROL hikes!

Useless mofos parading themselves as lawmakers when infact they are camouflaging common criminals!

So if you support government fixing the price of petrol then you should support government fixing the price of your businesses products that you sell to help the poor.

Okay i hope you would be happy if you were running a business selling stuff and government came in and told you to sell at a loss to help the poor?

Because if you are supporting government fixing prices of petrol and power and gas and cement you should also agree when government tells you to sell yout goods at a give away price to help the poor.

Don't support price fixing polices. They always end up with unintended consequences

while I think price control is a good economic policy DStv subscription is Monopoly driven

Well there are alternatives like Startimes.

Dstv is for folks who can afford it. Startimes is much cheaper.

I'm not talking about price fixing here is the government that want to control dstv which is a private business by the way. But that is the least of our problems. In a country like Nigeria, there are a lot of bottle necks that creates problems for businesses and causes price rise, its the government's responsibility to remove those bottlenecks and create enabling environment for businesses to thrive and competition will drive down prices significantly..... But that's something they re not interested in doing

You should do a little bit of reading- Maybe read about “market determinant” and causes of inflation deflation! Price control of goods and service are to be handled by government. But charity should begin at home!

DSTv issues are not paramount at the moment, fuel price hike is. Not everyone has DStv installed at home for viewing, but literally everyone needs petrol in one way or the other. If the prices of petrol can be stable, it is way better than controlling prices of DStv. Do you understand now? Or should I explain more?

Why

This is wrong!!!

The NBC is unable to efficiently run its own affiars

This is a wrong move!!!

Can they also regulate prices of inputs content? They just specialize in nonsense policies and moves in this country.

You can't be that inconsistent....because what you mean by market determinat...really is just your euphemism for 'The government should force marketers to sell fuel at N40 per liter'.

Nigerians pay the cheapest price for DSTV packages. At least research before you make yourself look silly on the internet.

Well, we get a cheap rate compared to other African countries...

dstv premium costs 23,385 naira in Ghana, compared to N18,400 in Nigeria for example.

DStv is luxury while PMS is necessity

No, you can't do it like that...otherwise you would be also/eventually supporting price controls on people who sell foodstuff in the market on the grounds that 'they are supplying a necessity'..and make them run at a loss

The price controls we have done for PMS is one of many reasons why out of 25 licenses for refineries, only 5 are active...because no one wants to refine crude oil into PMS at a loss( and of the five, one is refining crude oil into everything but PMS...simply because refining PMS is not profitable for him)

If this stupid government wants the Pay TV company to suspend the intended increase in tariff plans, they should strengthen the local currency and stuff. The only thing I can deduce from this unethical move of theirs is that they may finally succeed in driving the South African company away.
For wia! DStv won't go even if they drive them. They are chopping life here, even with the pressure.
