In the midst of unbearable rate of unemployment and decreasing job opportunities in Nigeria, there is a disturbing surge of job dissatisfaction among employees. I mean, the number of workers that are not really excited or happy with their job is continually on the increase. Analyzing this issue has revealed underlying causes and effects of job dissatisfaction and why human resource management of organisations are to blame for most cases of job dissatisfaction.

Talking about human resource management, it is that arm of an organisation that takes charge of staffing ( Recruitment), compensation (salary, wages, pension, gratuity, allowances etc.), discipline (performance, monitoring), responsibility (job assignment and description), training and staff development, health and safety. All to ensure that the organisation’s competitive advantage is maintained and ofcourse improved. However, while pushing for the organisations Politics, most employees often get dissatisfied over their job for reasons we shall discuss down below:-

Lack of interest in the job
It is different to not have interest in the job you do at all ; it means another to lose interest in the job you do. For lack of interest, could be not being able to get hands on the career of your dreams, not getting your dream job etc. Perhaps being broke is not an option so, one just had to hook up with the available jobs irrespective of the available condition of service. Lose of interest in a job means that perhaps initially, it was all ‘bed of roses’ and all a sudden, things wouldn’t play out as it should due to compensation issues, stress, work load, communication issues and the likes.

Poor Remuneration
One major causes of job dissatisfaction is poor remuneration. An average Nigerian employee gets underpaid with unimaginable work load. No health insurance, no leave allowance, no transportation allowance. After tax, the balance is most likely to leave less than 20% after other monthly expenditures are made. Poor remuneration has led to continued job search even while employed, poor standard of living and employee turnover in organisations limits continuity in organisational settings.

Environmental factors
In a city like Lagos Nigeria for instance, commuting to work on a daily and back is enough stress and needing a psychotherapy after a work season. The crowd you have to walk into and across on a daily is not helpful to the mind. The traffic jam you will have to meet commuting to work will force you to get on the way earlier than necessary yet, getting back home takes the same and even worse cases scenario. In the end, majority remain over stressed, over worked, underpaid and sick with unchecked high blood pressure.

Lack of job flexibility
Having to repeat one specific job routine continually from day to months to years is usually not motivating to some employees. If feels draggy, not really letting employees research on new approaches to do the same thing and ofcourse develop upper skills to upgrade their career odds.
Nothing interests employees more than letting them have their ways around their job responsibilities. I mean giving them a chance to apply skillfully their knowledge in their assigned task. So doing, they are sure of a job satisfaction and if the compensation is favourable it stands a plus to their career success.

It is a fallout of a systemic failure on the part of the government. Hence the labour market is like a refined slavery. The high rate of unemployment & the hash economy reality are hugely encouraging the few available employers to offer whatever they like to employees respect to welfare & job description. The government can't talk because the minimum wage is still an issue even when the amount is embarrassing.

Salaries are not keeping up with the cost of living

Then you're basically paying from your pocket to provide what the government should be providing

Everything still boils down to low pay. Forget all those things when you list. once the pay is good like $1000 and above, and it comes, when duly needed.

forget all those factors when you list so... Bob men nor go dissatisfied

Asour:

That's not really true.

While it is always good to be grateful to God for one's situation, Nothing satisfies long-term. Most Humans would soon become restless and seek the next challenge/Thing.

When you start earning the said amount you'll understand.

By the way, if you're safe/comfortable in your job without any desire to improve and explore the next thing, You're in for a rude shock soon.

By remaining comfortable you're choosing to be vulnerable.

In Nigeria, many of us today are not comfortable with our job, we wish for an increase in salary good welfare but since those factors needed are not available should I quit my low pay job. No.

most factors listed there only exist in our memory, yes we need the best, but there is no good job. even the little the government are rolling out many of the so called employed are fighting to take a bite. why because they are not comfortable with the pay and not the environment.

The surge of job dissatisfaction is directly correlated with the loss of earning power of the Naira against the Dollar. N50k five years ago has the purchasing power of N20k today.

The kingdom of the world has failed.

God's kingdom is the surest.

The World is coming to an end.

Come quickly Lord.

If you don't believe in Jesus as your substitute for your sins you will not have eternal rest.

Accept Jesus' sacrifice today. Tomorrow maybe too late for you.

Because of widening inequality and inequity.

Their negative effects on a society are worse than poverty.

There is nothing unusual in the writeup about jobs and work. You can't expect to live the Western lifestyle and not adopt the Western ways. Everything written is what it takes to run an organized society. Once efficiency and production increases, expect more depression along with suicides and murders to rise. For a society to work in today's industrial to technology age, repetitive organized tasks are required. Long hours are required. You must squeeze every drop of blood from the person to produce the best results. Be careful what you wish for.

Delusion. Social media is giving everyday Nigerians a false sense of reality. The country is a third world country. See the value of hair but employees expect to have experience of people that live in the west. With which money? Even govt jobs it’s by stealing that people make so much further contributing to the problems we have

Nice write up.

There is also the aspect of public food.

As a worker in some of our big cities such as Lagos you do not have the time to cook or arrange food especially such an early hour of the morning.

A worker is forced to eat in public restaurant or street food.

Not everyone like public food or street food.

Its general. Almost everyone is not happy with what they are doing.

Even those you think have it all aren't happy, but the fear of hunger is the key driving force making people return to jobs they dont find satisfying.

Another major cause of job dissatisfaction is the increasing prices of things generally with meagre salary not increasing and most cases people not being paid as at when due.
