Who are you?! He's a senior Major pending Lt.Col. He can be appointed as CO in special force battalion.
EzeNri:
My question is, why would a Major be commanding a Battalion, a Special Force Battalion for that matter?

A Colonel should command a Battalion, Brigadier General, a Brigade and Major General a Division.

A Major should be commanding a Company not a Special Forces Battalion please.

A man from Andoni, fighting a useless fight that was created by Kanuri politicians.

I just wonder when this people will have sense and know that Both Nigerian Government and the Nigerian army and Boko Haram Terrorists are all one. They are all in one Accord and in unite with each other.

Any Igbo man in Nigerian Army is a big fool. He is only waiting to be sacrificed

I am not an IBO, I am a Yoruba man. It is the internal tension, religious and political dichotomy in Yoruba land that is causing indecision that is still giving you the audacity of hope of one Nigeria. The Yorubas are the problems of the South.

A battalion can be commanded by a Major or Lt Col depending on the size. Same for a Division, which can be commanded by a Brig Gen or Major Gen. I know for a fact that 8th Div, (or one of the smaller Divs in Maiduguri or Yobe) has been commanded by several Brig Gens.

Hmm...food for thought, except he was a specialist. The military should consider airborne assaults in these kinds of search and destroy operations.
Wars are not won from the air. There is no single war in history won from the air. Air superiority only gives the infantry an edge over the opponent. You always need men on the ground to win a war. Even with the atomic bombs dropped on Japan, the Americans still needed soldiers on ground to secure the Japanese mainland as evidence of the defeat.

What a useless question. Most moronic southerners joined the northern region in fight for One-Nigeria yet you as such an infantile question. Did you forget the mantle to uphold the phantom of One-Nigeria?
You are daft, which stupid one Nigeria are we talking about? The same one Gumi said Christian Soldiers are the ones killing bandits? The same one Buhari referred to Boko haram as Families? Just last month some Military men were declared missing and information from those missing soldiers got to the public that fellow Military men from the North were killing them. Apart from that, a lot of time that Nigeria troops were ambushed by terrorist and killed. If any Southerners Military men are still foolishly walking into death trap all in the name of one Nigeria, then they are so foolish.

You're correct. Maybe he was an acting CO. A battalion can also be commanded by a Lt.Col.

You're very correct.

Lieutenant = Platoon,
Captain = Company,
Major = Armored/mechanised/artillery/ special company.

However, I hear that Nigerian army battalions are usually under manned. For example, instead of having at least 750 men, many I've heard about had less than 400 men.

Please president Buhari stop sending our southerners to fight Bokoharam, we have few of them in Nigeria army, I'm begging you.
Send armies from that particular state to fight bokoharam, it will reduce sabotage among them, they won't want to sabotage there brothers.

Please send all southern soldiers back to us in the south, we can't afford to lose our brothers to a useless cause. This is why this fight have not ended, recruit indigenes of Maiduguri into the army, is only them that can fight bokoharam.
Nobody will win bokoharam war, except armies from Borno will win bokoharam war.

If Southern army are in the south, they will discharge their duties very well, they will work with there whole heart to protect their families, I don't see federal government winning bokoharam fight with this method of involving southerners.
Even if is me, I won't want to die because of bokoharam, since my family is not from the North, why should I bother myself to fight.

Sending southerners to go die in the north is unnecessary, please stop sending them.
We are not responsible for bokoharam, we have pressing issues.

Send our armies back to us in the south, please carry your Northern armies back to the North, we don't need them, we are tired of them, they are of no use in the south.

The only daft person in this discuss is you sir. I guess you have idiotically forgotten your forbearers fought for One-Nigeria and Boko Haram are fighting against such useless slogan. Airborne assault. Please read before jumping into comments. An airborne assault means the delivery of troops and stores into a target area by air transport.

If it is far and distant target paratroopers do it. If it is close, choppers do it. It saves time, makes for quicker reaction, greater mobility and less risk to the troops moving through rough terrain.

In dangerous interdictions airborne troops first secure the area and clear the way for ground assault troops to catch up.

And if you want to sound so enlightened and historically polished I will tell you that the greatest assault in world war history, Operation Overlord was spearheaded by an airborne assault to secure bridges deep into France, Belgium and Holland. Same thing in Korea and Vietnam. You just do not enter the most dangerous locations on foot or vehicles. Ambushes are just too easy. They can see you coming for miles and have enough time to prep.

The military, particularly the Army must develop an air assault wing as a matter of priority. There is just too much real estate to patrol and contain.
