I disagree

A plan has been laid out to make it work, this also includes inviting the people/company whoi built them in the first place.

With great effort and determination we can make it work. This government has shown in the past what it takes to make things work
look atew!, wasn't it the same thing Johnathan started before buhari came to power n termed everything corruption n cancelled the contracts in 2015?now he is shamelessly going back to his vomitus n you are sheepishly praising him.

Which plan has been laid out? Was this plan not in place when d then minister of state Kachikwu promised year after year& even promised to resign if d refineries weren't fixed?

The condition would have been you produced at least half of the name plate capacities throughout the year or pay penalties.

The biggest mistake that was made was the reversal of the sale of the refinery to Dangote Zennon and Transcorp. That sale was the best idea. What have we gained from the refinery since the reversal of the sale? Absolutely nothing.

Buhari's handwriting can be seen all over it. Why not simply sell the refinery? Kachukwu has already said these old refineries produce at high cost that's it cheaper to buy from overseas.

I'm 80% sure the deregulation of the petrol price will go ahead hence Buhari's patriotic zeal to throw money down the drain. Every dollar of that $1.5bn is a waste.

Can't that amount build a refinery on its own?

It is successive Govts, way of creating Election slush funds for themselves.
If Buhari is still alive, he should be ashamed at the level of corruption he is enabling.
Jonathan's own has been eclipsed into oblivion.
Buhari will remain the worst President Nigeria ever had, for generations to come.
He is even a foreigner from Niger Republic! shocked shocked

That was exactly what the Govt did when they wanted to sell NEPA and Ajaokuta.
They pump Public money into it and then acquire it through their cronies, at Rock-bottom price, only to 'asset-strip' it and abandon it afterwards or ask Govt to keep bailing it out with public funds again. undecided undecided

It is all a SCAM.

You came up with this because you are a refinery construction contractor, engineer, or just a layman saying layman things?

$1 Billion can not build a 210,00 barrel refinery, not 2 billion, not 3 billion and not even 4 billion.

Petrobras said the cost rose to $12 billion with the finalization of the basic plans for the project and the decision to increase its refining capacity by 15% to 230,000 b/d. It said the upward cost estimate fits with current cons

https://www.ogj.com/refining-processing/refining/construction/article/17275730/costs-spiral-for-brazilvenezuela-refinery-project

Similar capacity like the one in PH. That's $12 billion for a 230/BPD refinery.

$1 billion to get a 210/BPD refinery up and running is money well spent.

Many of you think you know more than the FG because you hate the FG or you think everything you see is corruption, but they actually know more than you and you actually don't know anything.

We've been told times without number no maintenance could be done in those refineries even from the present government, why this lately.

We'll all account for all we do.

Not only that we didn't gain anything, we wasted money in them paying salaries to workers not producing and countless rounds of rehabilitations and turn around maintenances. Imagine what the $1.5B will do to other aspects of our economy

Exactly! Imagine that we had already gotten 78.1 billion naira for the refinery in 2006 (the government returned the money to the consortium when the sale was reversed) and add to that all the money that we have spent on it since then (it has operated at a loss since then) and you can see what we've lost, yet we keep pouring money down the drain.

Although they plan to basically concession it to an Italian firm, but the work would not be completed before 2023 and I bet the new government will come in and waste a lot of money to investigate this contract.

It's all a waste of time and money.

All refinery are not the same.
The average cost of an oil refinery per barrel is $25000.

That money can be used to build a new 25000bbl refinery.

The best option would have been for the government to sale those refineries, in US there are refineries that are over 50yrs old, the problem with Nigeria an refineries is not age but corruption and mismanagement.

Nigeria is a huge SCAM that needs to end ASAP! OBJ sold those refineries in 2007. Some thieves went to deceive Yar'adua to reverse the sale that OBJ was selling our commonwealth to his friends. Between 2007 and now none of the refineries have worked, hundreds of billions of dollars have been spent on the refineries without producing any fuel, Turn around maintenance, paying staff for doing nothing etc! The word fraud should be replaced with Nigeria. Now another 1.5b USD will be spent on a moribund refinery! This is same country that has no quality hospitals, no good schools, poorly funded police. Cursed be Lord Lugard and his generation for bringing this evil on us!

Is it Lord lugard that signed the 1.5billion dollars or is he responsible for our misappropriation?

FEC approves $1.5 billion for repair of Port Harcourt Refinery - News Report

Mee:

Another rip off by the extremely wicked and corrupt Buhari gang of bloodthirsty killers and monumental fraudsters.

The price of crude oil tag in the 2021 budget is $40 per barrel. Anything above this is sent to the Excess Crude Oil Account. The price of Crude Oil has being climbing of recent. There is money in the Excess Crude Oil Account. So, these economic terrorists want to loot that money.

We all know that the 4 Nigerian Refineries are conduit points of massive looting of the public treasury.

The Buhari gang brought in a faceless Italian group that will facilitate their treasury looting. A proper repair of the Port Harcourt Refinery will contact those that build the Refinery.

$1.5 billion is more than enough to build a brand new mini Refinery. But we have notorious treasury looters in power in Nigeria. What do you expect
