101% northerners are against Nigeria break up or restructured because you guys gain from the flawed 1999 constitution designed by the military.

What do you thing will happen if its the north that wants to break away?

Please answer the question honestly.

Can the West and Eastern Nigeria stop them?

Greed and selfishness is the bane of Nigeria.

Thank you for this post. The Soviet Union broke up peacefully without name calling and war, hindustan broke up peacefully and the components are very happy with each other. Ethiopia and Eritrea are now separate countries with out issues, Singapore and Malaysia separated peacefully and are both doing great. Why is Nigeria having night mares about separation yet not able to guarantee an egalitarian society and some folks who knows how flawed the elections are are telling me to wait until 2023 to vote out a government that rigs election with impunity. The problem of Nigeria is far from starting.
this why when I see people say Nigeria will be better I laugh....this country is too broken inside, we are only patriotic on the lips....me I'm not, cause those u have been have died in vain....year in out, nothing changes!!!!

breakin up a nation of 200million people....??

do you even understand what type of chaos that would be....??
in essence we stay together...stagnant, cause we are not making progress and the rotten culture keeps spreading....there will be nothing left for our children to salvage

If Nigeria 'breaks', do you think it will just be a peaceful parting of ways in which nobody's life is disrupted?

If that is what you think, think again.

There will be MASSIVE social disruption and humanitarian crises. Millions of people now based in various parts of Nigeria that are not their states of origin will be categorised as illegal aliens overnight, uprooted, and forced to return 'home'.

Refugee crises would ensue all over the place. Businesses would be lost. Crime would skyrocket. Localised conflicts over access to land by new immigrants would lead to the rise of warlords, and massive bloodshed.

It would be absolutely catastrophic.

I think those who do not want Nigeria to ''break'' are people with common sense, intelligence and foresight, and those who wish the country to break are thoughtless, ignorant, dumb, visionless fools with no common sense. And ironically, this group will feel the pain of that national splintering more than anyone else, since they are the ones settled in various regions across the country in their millions, and will have their lives and livelihoods completely destroyed in the mayhem.

With time each country we balance up and thing will start working. But you see Nigeria as a country can't work no matter the effort, let everyone just go

Why the exclamation with unbelievable

is it enigmatic, inscrutable and perplexing that democracy in Nigeria is a shame to everything that the ideology of democracy holds??

I have always been an advocate for one Nigeria but I can't continue to decieve myself in a situation that is outstandingly clear and visible

Pandering fear.

If so, how would you explain Brexit? FYI, the UK was well integrated into the EU economy before Brexit, and millions of Europeans live and work in the UK, and vice versa for British citizens. But there is no single chant of war at the mention of Brexit and now after they have left, not a single soul was lost, or property is gone. How will you explain that? What you said will only happen if all stakeholders will refuse to come to the table and renegotiate the country.

Have you forgotten why the two protectorates were joined together by the British? One was extremely prosperous while the other was extremely wretched. The two protectorates were joined together so that the wealth of the prosperous one would be used to take care of the lazy, illiterate, wretched one.

Yes, a region made up of people with a high literacy rate and growing industrialisation will be a hellhole, while a colonial contraption which is ruled over by a region which is 95% illiterate, violent and wretched is paradise on earth. Your "intelligence" is overwhelming. wink

Yes because the millions living in IDP camps, the millions more who are refugees in Chad, Niger, Benin Republic etc and the tens of thousands who have lost their lives in bandit/herdsmen,Islamic criminal/Boko Haram/ISWAP attacks, cultists, armed robbers etc is a very strong motivation to stay together while the lazy unproductive Hausa/Fulanis steal from the South?

Not that alone. They know, by their own deliberately wicked and cynical actions, they have denied themselves the most important tool required for successful nationhood.

Effective human resources. With the average Northerner unskilled and an illiterate who is not qualified to be a solutions provider, the North, on her own, lacks the basic human resources to be anything better than Sudan or Mali.
Na so una go dey feel una self with pseudo intelligence.. With all your human resources, all your states are cesspits. You better work on taking responsibility for all your problems and stop blaming others. Rubbish!!

Because the Colonial Office in London didn't want to waste British taxpayers money on a fruitless enterprise, but they still wanted to hold on to the North because they didn't want it to fall into the hands of the French. You're actually the one who needs a history lesson. Even Farouk Kperogi admitted that the North can never stand on its own.
