A big ship of this size can navigate through NARROW Suez Canal, Why aren't more ports open in other Nigerian states.
suez canal is not as wide as river Niger or river benue

This canal have serve as the world most busiest route in trade, why is Nigeria government complaining instead of developing this river like Suez Canal
Modified: to those mentioning wideness
Is easier to dredge a river than to wide it
And Suez Canal was also dredge before it attain this position

They will rather die than do so.
That's why the east needs her own government to take actions that will benefit the locals.

what is the deepness and flow rate?

A river can be wide but not deep to carry ship.

Well it's not about how wide the canal is but how deep. And the most important thing is that the canal links Europe with the East and also Africa. So it's like a short cut that connects this three continents. Everything shouldn't be about politics.

Even if the river in your village is wider or deeper than this canal, that's not the point. The point is, how important is the river in your village?

So you mean Suez Canal was not dredge to give the needed depth for ship cruise

Suez Canal was also dredged
And if those who are in charge of this canal reason like Nigerians they will still be arguing that the river is narrow to carry a ship of such magnitude hence they won’t become what they are today

you don't just start dredging a river or canal for navigational purpose, you must have seen the flow rate, and you must have determined the movement of the water from the source.

note that this is a Canal, for it to be a Canal it was constructed and designed for this purpose, it doesn't share same properties as a natural river or lake.

I used to wonder whether MAJORITY of Yorubas are like you. Well if they are, I will just have to believe to my very core that everything that is being said on this forum about you guys are nothing but truth(racism in this case tribalism, hate-filled bile, cowards, Yoruba Muslims etc.) grin

If you think the Suez canal is a marvel then you should see the Panama canal and it complex lock system which shows that the River Niger is a piece of cake for any serious govt to surmount

If only Jonathan, your brother did half of what Buhari is doing to open the water way in the East maybe things would have been better than this.
I wonder how this people leave their source of problems at home to blame another person.
This is the same way you leave your governors and senators in the East but come to Lagos, Ibadan, ogun state to complain of things that the governors their are not doing to your taste while you dine and wine with those who keep your home state in shamble.

If a canal can be constructed like this
Then we have no excuse to construct river Niger
Ship moves in less turbulent water than a tide and heavy current water,
Hence the more the calm the river the easier it sails
So with this river Niger or benue with less current have have greater chance to be a destination for world biggest ship than Suez Canal
Suez Canal manager knew of this ,they weren’t complaining and speaking English like Nigerians does, cos if they are ,there will be no Suez Canal,
Every trading route were discovered ,made by nature crafted by men ,
Therefore we have no excuse ,to build our own canal,
so your argument in current is null,if not same current enjoyed by apapa seaport is applicable to warri seaports i
We have no reason not to make other seaport in Nigeria work

The question is why are the eastern politicians doing nothing or saying anything. All they do is get paid, no interest on anything that bothers the people.

i was watching yesterday on Al Jazeera!! looking at that canal I was shocked it could carry such embodiment of ship,

I quickly remember the River Niger in respect to Onitsha port, No justifiable reason not to utilize that River able to carry ships. Politicisation in Nigeria is so overwhelming...it's time to restructure,so each region will do what's necessary

I've argued in the past that had Biafra or Igbo Republic existed, the river from Obuaku that bursts out into the Atlantic would have been dredged and widened if necessary for the construction of a seaport. Even Afikpo could host a seaport, but the route for that one would pass through Cross River State, so it would have to be a partnership with another nationality, just as the Suez and Panama canals are results of international agreements and cooperation.

The route to Onitsha from the Atlantic via the Niger would be fraught with problems for obvious reasons......it passes through what i would consider 'not so friendly teritory'!

We're still in 'one Nigeria' so not much can be done for now!

It's like you don't really appreciate the level of hatred, envy and 'hold-Igbo-down' sentiments that exist among certain groups towards us! They feel threatened by any success we record and can't rest easy if they see we might be developing faster than them!

I dont agree with you. Even if Nigeria is divided, will the people of Delta and Bayelsa let you guys dredge the River all the way from onitsha to the ocean?

Bro, not only did I notice it but I am amazed by the blind and stupid hatred some parts of the country have towards igbos to the extent that if an igbokwe is qualified for a position and there is no other candidate they would rather have an unqualified person in acting capacity.

But on the other hand it seems God is equally very much fighting this people who hate igbos. Almost all their States are now piqued with insecurity by their own folks to the extent that pupils don't go to school and the military and police are now victims.

Are you aware the Suez canal is man made You want to dredge those Rivers so ships can pass, what will now happen to those communities around such Rivers Have thought about the environmental impact of the flooding problem

Mitigate flooding undecided maybe because you don't live near any river or Niger Delta, that why you can make such statement.
Any you already tag Niger Delta 'not so friendly teritory'
