Imagine this same woman nigerians fought for so buhari will appoint her because she was the most senior and qualified

You don enter don dey play politics

In law and medicine you don't learn on the job, you are only labeled socialist after you've finished learning. Likewise a judge should understand the laws they seek to interpret or they'll miscarry justice
so u want a high court judge who is being interviewed to be elevated to court of appeal to know everything?
Even in medicine, there is learning on the job everyday.

In law and medicine you don't learn on the job? Like seriously?
You just graduate from law school and you are made a SAN or you just finished law school and you are made the Chief Justice of Nigeria?

These Olumide Akpata guy should be calming down.
He’s not even a SAN yet but likes to talk more than his intellectual capacity.
I hope he doesn’t bring partisan politics into the NBA because he’s a known PDP stooge.

Having SAN title does not equal to having intellectual capacity.............. Just like bein a Professor does not mean you are highly intelligent!!!!

Judges require a level of competence and experience, just like Doctors they sometimes determine if somebody will live or die.
Definitely people learn on a job but there are certain things somebody being considered for a judge's position should have learnt

Don't worry be supporting nonsense until a judge learning on the job sentences your dad to death over a family land matter.

"learn on the job."

The NBA president concern is legitimate.

We all know that in nigeria a judge that is not really fit can be put there with the excuse that he or she would learn on the job.
Totally unfit judge.
Re: Monica Dongban-Mensem Counters Olumide Akpata Over Appointment Of Judges by stanisbaratheon: 11:08am On Mar 31, 2021
Learning on the job means wrongful conviction of innocent people before perfecting the art of the job.

In other countries the judiciary saves their country from executive and legislative rascality but here in Nigeria, the judiciary is the most useless arm of government.

Loooool. what do you know about 'intellectual capacity' of a lawyer. Are you even a lawyer to start with? And what makes you think that all Senior Advocates are brilliant? For your information, the practice of law is divided into two - transaction and litigation. it is only those who are in litigation (and academia) that are eligible for SAN. Those in transactions are not because they are not 'advocates'. they dont go to court. Olu is a transactional lawyer, therefore he cannot be a SAN. That said, we know who have more money sha and the money transactional lawyers command...hmmmm

Wow wow wow!!! Their secrets are gradually coming out to the public.

What secret? She is very correct to say what she said because appointments in every sector have been politicized.

The mere fact that the comments you mostly see in the media about the appointment of the Justices of the Appeal Court are where they are from or what religion they belong to, proves her point.

In Nigeria, we hear of an appointment and we immediately check the name to identify tribe and religion. The qualification of the appointee rarely comes up for discussions if it ever.

There is politics even in your place of work, you just have to learn it in other to get along.

Ever wondered why Chelsea coach, Thomas doesn't stay long in a club?

That is not applicable in this instance. That would be relevant where there is a shortage of manpower. There is no such a shortage. There is in fact an over abundance of qualified personnel to be elevated to the The Court o FG Appeal on merits. This puerile response from The Court of Appeal confirms the position of the NBA President on the matter.

Learn on the job when peoples lives and rights are on the line?

We are not even talking about learning on the job but knowing basic legal fundamentals and having basic capacity to arbitrate.

Nigeria is gone to the dogs.

The Judiciary is dead, once it is buried, that's the end of democracy.

The quota system that has destroyed almost every sector is being introduced to the judiciary, with its technicalities pilot.

Judges learning on the job?

Who would be happy knowing a judge is using his own justice for training?

You are either qualified or not. I support olumide akpata.

Its not out of place bro, even doctors learn on the job and pple die sometimes before they get grasp of what they do.
What about magistrates that are appointed straight out of school sometimes? you see, they all learn on the job.

This is dumbest excuse ever, then why even waste time interviewing them since they can learn while on the job....
This are judges in which people fate will depend on and you want them to learn on the job??

She was talking of qualified high court judges being interviewed to be elevated to court of appeal.
Nobody knows it all. People learn on the job.
People learn on the job but not in this manner.
The report stated that interview for 20candidates took less than 2 hours, that's average of 6mins per person, what reasonable response or information will a candidate offer within such period of time.

Wow wow wow!!! Their secrets are gradually coming out to the public.

Our Honorable Justices in the Appeal Courts should not dissapoint the Masses, who looked unto them as beacons of hope as we all know that Appeal Courts Justices are men/ women of honour!
There are many Cases that are lying fallow at different Courts- High Courts, National Industrial Courts, which the Appeal Courts should give order for these Cases to be brought to them, with some 2009 till date, yet,no accelerated hearing!
Today, many Nigerians are very reluctant going to Courts as they are afraid of fair justice in the long-run because the System is perceived skewed for the elites!
For instance,a Company (a big organization) has an established methods of employment and termination for All the Staff, that all the Staff MUST stand before a Staff Disciplinary Committee, yet has now dismissed a staff without following its own rules- which has and it's still in existence?
A Judge in the lower Court, saw this variance, yet went to give judgement despite it's attention being drawn to it! Up till now over a decade, the matter is still in Appeal Court! What is good for other(goose),is good for this one too( gander).
A company can not removed the goal-post when the opponents is about to score, for it will be an act of injustices!
Since errors/omission were made by the Company- for not inviting the Staff to defend herself before the 7-Members of the Staff Disciplinary Committee, the Judge should not shy away of saying the truth! For wrong decisions today may affect theirs tommorow when they are no longer in the System! Fairness must be holistic!

That's why I have the *but*. 6mins is grossly inadequate to know the strength of a top managerial candidate, even if we are to give benefit of doubt that they will increase their expertise on the job.
