Sterope: God bless you! Bohoo, too! I love clothes that are chic and you can comfortably use for years. All these nonsense they sell today... one wear or one wash and it has lost alignment and appeal. Yes, Primark delivers to Nigeria. I get clothes and flats. My former colleague and I used to plan our orders together. She was the plug. 1 Like |

Sterope: I've not embraced sewing clothes. My knowledge of fabrics is at best basic... I only know wool, cotton, silk, polyester. But in the Nigerian fabric world, there's organza, sequin, various grades of ankara, various types of lace, senator, etc. Headache o. And then my few experiences with tailors. And the stress of choosing styles, fitting and all what not. Cost! To buy a fabric and sew a complete nice dress may end up costing you 15-18k and you may not like it. Whereas I can use 8500 to 12k to get a really pleasing gown. 1 Like 1 Share |

PrimadonnaO: so how do we grow the Nigerian Economy if we only believe in foreign clothes ? Truth is something has to give. A lot of local designers are making quality and affordable clothes. We need to change the wrong mindset that its quality cos its foreign. Very untrue. 1 Like |

scondy: No. The mindset isn't that it's quality because it's foreign. I mentioned specific brands... and I've been sticking with these all through the years because I've seen them to actually be quality. In comparison to most Nigerian brands I've tried, I'll still pick my specific foreign brands, honestly, because they give me value for money. To be honest, I'm patriotic, but what do I gain buying a dress for 10, 500 and it's fraying or doesn't look good enough after 6 months to 1 year? My younger sisters don't buy much clothes with their money. I give them my clothes or buy for them... and it outlives the few Nigerian brands that they buy.. It's sad, but it's really hard to sacrifice value for money over trying to boost Nigerian local designers.. 2 Likes |

PrimadonnaO: i get you but there are good local designers that have clothe that match foreign quality. Do not forget that the textile and fabrics are equally imported. Thye arent manufactured by the local designers. So just as we have locally made wears that wash easily, we have freign ones that also do. It all boils down to the designers choice of fabric. Be it local or foreign. if they would ensure they don't compromise on quality fabric to maximize profit. That is what the brands you mentioned do. That is how their brands were built. 1 Like |

scondy: There lies the issue. How do we know the ones that are trustworthy? It's people with plenty of money that can go about doing trial and error. If I have 15 to 20k to get a really nice dress, because that money means a lot to me, I'll jejely go for a guaranteed brand, such that if even a local designer offers 12k for something similar, I'll be very skeptical. We'll get there sha. The more local brands prove themselves, the more visibility they'll get, and the rest of us skeptics will start patronising, too. |

Yeah, I loved what I saw on Boohoo today . I will definitely be buying from them henceforth. I like sewing but it can be expensive and the finished product most times won't be worth the effort and the cost. I found the perfect fabric guy in Yaba when I was in Lagos. PrimadonnaO: 1 Like |
