Four million swallowed by incompetent hospital and she still died

Like the advise my family physician told my parents before retiring... Do whatever you can to stay away from Nigerian Hospitals even if it's change of diet, exercise or healthy living, Nigerian hospitals are now death traps in the hands of newbie doctors

Living in Nigeria is death sentence. Deaths due to trauma are more than those from sickness. Facts

SMH @Medical practice in Nigeria: doing business with people's lives!

Probably the gynecologists didn't show up on that Saturday because they went to hustle elsewhere.

@ the resident medical officers: even a 4th year medical student would know that there's internal bleeding: falling blood pressure after surgery despite all the transfusions, plus low urine output! Most likely, there's abdominal swelling too.
I am outraged, even a fresher Will know this

I have 10 years working experience in Nigeria Healthcare system before leaving for Europe. Countless times I have heard please don't let me die but we cannot do anything. Today people born in the 1920s are going home from my unit Healthy and Nigeria Hospitals cannot manage people under 50 years. The Healthcare system in Nigeria is in crisis. When was the last time you saw Buhari or any Governor in our Hospitals.

Nation is in crisis. There are many factors determining our health. There is no way health sector will function if other sectors are not fairly well..
Thank God you left the country. It is only mad people that can survive this country. It is country of insanity.
There are still good doctors in the country. Best graduating doctors in my class are still in the countries practising as consultants while average doctors have left the country practising as GP, very few as consultants.

At the end the nma will shield the hospital from any punishment.

It's not how posh a hospital looks or how much money you pay. it's all depends on the personnel on ground. How serious they take their job. When the doctor from UK suggested there might be an internal bleeding. Why didn't they perform a bed side ultrasound scan or CT scan immediately. The family can afford it. Look at it.

They probably knew what was wrong all along, but pretended they don't.
Maybe during the surgery, they mistakenly punctured one vital organ. Who knows

Premier Specialist Hospital, they only specialize in killing their patients. They are only big for nothing. It is only because they are situated in high brow areas like VI and Lekki.
The rich don't even use them for major health issues, they rather go abroad. It is the middle class that have small money but not enough for abroad that use them and Premier always show them shege.

A relative was so badly treated in Premier Lekki and VI in 2017. She died.
Dr. Oteju
Dr. Ogunlaja
Dr. Kuti
Dr. Ayodele

God is watching all of you in 3D.
Bunch of quack irresponsible doctors. Murderers in disguise. They don't care one bit, only money.

Many Nigerian doctors are negligent and arrogant. If the doctors in question had been humble enough to listen to the doctor in the UK who posited she was bleeding internally, this tragedy would have been averted. I pray the family sues the hospital, not because I am vindictive, but because I hope this will serve as a deterrent to other hispitals and doctors. May God give her family the strength to bear this avoidable loss.

There was no way she would have been able to make the journey with all the attendant issues.
Saying he should have taken his wife abroad means that the initial hospital that operated on her has no responsibilities to her?

Well once BP is going south after a major operation with low urine output and probably abdomenal swelling in this case... or excessive drainage from op site.... It's a pointer to internal bleeding
This will ultimately lead to DIC...a point of no return

What does DIC mean?

when my father was in "nnewi teaching hospital" in 2014,I saw alot, 50% of death that occurred on a daily basis were caused by the doctors negligence

the one that made me lost control and descended on the entire nurses, was a two bike accident victims that were brought in

the doctor that was supposed to attend to them ignored them and sent a nurse, the nurse came and was busy eating okpa while one of them was bleeding to death

I lost my cool and created a scene in the entire hospital, what I did brought a little change which could've been taken up to a total revolution

to cut the story short, nurses and doctors attended to the victims by fire by force when my actions attracted victims who's looking for an opportunity to act

One of the reasons we can't always blame our useless government......not just with doctors but with nigerians in general, from disobeying traffic laws, to collecting bribes, to not being diligent in your dealings, to cutting corners, to lack of planning, down to even your character as a person.....Nigerians need serious reorientation.

Na real wahala!
The rot that we all contribute to the Nigerian system, each and every Nigerian, infest us all at one point in time or the other.
Our professionals are just like our politicians, you cannot give what you don't have. Until the things that Nigerians value change, then we will all be victims of a system that though we didn't create, but neither have we done much to repair or make better.

Nigerians need to start valuing things that cost NOTHING. Love, patience, honesty, peace, respect for each other, dedication, loyalty etc.

As long as MONEY is our God,we are on a long thing!
I rest my case.

Sometimes, being stubborn is really helpful... Barely two months ago, my sister was rushed to the hospital from her place of work and the condition was so critical that required an operation, while in the theatre battling for her precious life, I was praying and sweating profusely that she would come back....

While this was going on, I moved to the female ward of the hospital to get her mantle which she kept on her bag and I saw one of the female patient who's having difficulty to speak and breathe well trying to get the attention of a nurse putting on a white earphone blasting to music from her mobile device.

The female patient was pointing to the pulse clip which the nurse mistakenly removed while arranging her oxygen cylinder.

I had to forcefully remove the useless earphone from her ears and shouted at her to concentrate.... She wanted to misbehave by trying to shout back at me, I had to show her that there are levels to madness by destroying the earphone. I did wrong there, but I hate negligence.... She reported me to the naval personnel there and after everything, they ask me to take it easy and be calm.

What brighten my mood that day was that my sister came out of that health challenge and the doctors gave her full attention anytime she complained.

I don't tolerate negligence at work place.

Which kind yeye hospital is that? Blocking ears while attending to patients! It is well o. They need to retrain their nurses biko.

They didn't know what to do and were too arrogant to take the advice of the UK-based gynaecologist! Nigeria is messed up! Our doctors would rather chase money and engage in rivalry with other healthcare professionals than study and get updated on best practices in medicine and surgery!

I pity this country!!!

R. I. P to the deceased and I pray comfort attends to the family and loved ones..

Going through the timelines, I wonder about the possibility of a severe blood transfusion reaction - which is a silent killer due to poor lab practices - given the jaundice, which only made the evolving acute DIC fatal. The other thing to consider may be the generous vasopressor use intra-operatively given the low BP. This might contribute to the AKI alongside anaesthetic gases impact on her liver.

Myomectomies are generally very bloody operations - not unusual to have a blood loss of 1-3litres depending on number and position of fibroids - so having a possible bleeding disorder such as vWF - currently underdiagnosed as not checked in routine blood tests- complicates the picture, and raises the likelihood of developing DIC.

DIC can be quite difficult to treat once the boat has left the shores.. Given the lack of FFP/ factor 7 or Cryo in Naija.

Overall, if the above were to be present, a return to theatre may not have helped.. It might only have sped up her demise - - something the surgeons might have been thinking - hence their reluctance, despite contrary overseas opinion.

Not just doctors sir... This issue abounds in nearly all sectors of this 4th world nation.

Poor education, indiscipline, lack of proper mentoring/training on the job, and overall poor leadership!!!

Let's not even talk about the fact that corruption has eaten into every core and fabric of our way of life to the point that universities now churn out incompetent graduates who paid their way through school without actually getting proper education.

The few good ones who go abroad and excel, do so because those guys have high standards. There are proper checks and balances in place to foster discipline and accountability.

Systems of checks and balance don't exist in this nation from healthcare to civil engineering, even to law enforcement! That is why this is an UNDERDEVELOPED nation!!!
U took words off my mouth.
There's rot in all sectors.
D way we are quick to stamp hard on doctors and d medical system, calling them all sorts of names and shit.

Lets not forget it's d government that put us under this Palava.

E don tey wey doctors dey form don shishi. NMA defends its members and this has encouraged negligence more especially in govt hospitals, so private hospitals are doing same. I can't imagine if you were advised to check internal bleeding and it was neglected. They are mad! They should be sued!
