why not leave the wall stick and look at how standard the factory is?
Lol,
Just venting..
Don't take it serious..
I like the factory idea.. But I'm not a good advocate of government businesses in Nigeria.
Maybe that's why I'm ambivalent..
The government of Cross Rivers and Akwa Ibom States seem to have done some good works in terms of setting up industries. Remember Ibom Air and the syringe factory in Calabar.
But all these will face the perenial problems if government corruption and ineptitude, if not now maybe when these governors are gone..
That should have partnered with solid local entrepreneurs..
All the same, good efforts..

Government has no business doing business. Government should be for regulation.

IMO instead of government building factories, why not create an enabling environment so that entrepreneurs and private businesses build the said factories?

LegendHero:
I have been watching the development in Akwa-Ibom for a while now and I think this governor is really trying.

I hope he can handover some of these factories he’s building to the private sector and make it some sort of PPP.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, today visited the St. Gabriel's Coconut Oil Factory at Mkpat Enin to assess the ongoing installation of production lines.

The Governor who was conducted round the facility by the project consultant Engr. Francis Uwah and project supervisors from VKS was assured that the factory, capable of engaging 1300 direct staff would be ready for inauguration before the anniversary of the state's creation in September this year.

Here are photos of the factory.

Thank You AKS Governor...Udom EMMANUEL. Other Governors Should Learn from Your Strides in Industralising d State for Economic emancipation. Rivers State,Delta, Bayelsa and Edo take Note,Pls.

Probably constructed and 100% owned by the Chinese! Any resources they require in large continuous quantity, they go to the source, build the factory and process everything for direct export... it’s cheaper for them dat way.

But look at mumu politicians ‘galavanting’ around as if this is their making undecided factory workers to be should brace themselves well, working in a Chinese factory na die!

what would happen if you start a coconut farm in your backyard, grow it and sign mou to supply to the factory? By now our research institutes should be seeking ways to derive energy from the byproducts of the factory but no we are on Instagram, we are going to worship centers, we are waiting for money to loot.
Great points bro

Yes you’re right. But sometimes if the government see that private investors are reluctant to invest on their own, they can set up some form of partnership program to boost them.

Remember Akwa-Ibom might not boast of enormous private players so government can come in to help and serve as buffer if needed.

If you’re talking about state like Lagos will huge private players, it could be a different ball game.

There are textbook definition that says government have no business whatsoever, but sometimes reality could be different based on the factors at play.

But where will all the coconuts come from? Do we have that much coconut in this country?

Every Akwaibomite have been encouraged to go into coconut farming as the refinery can process all the coconut in Nigeria..... It's a multi-economical venture!

While such projects are commendable and will generate employment, the main focus should be to raise revenue for the state.
Which one is to employ 1200 people? Abi hope it will not turn to civil service where it will be filled up with man know man and huge salary bills, people doing nothing at the end of the day it will rundown or need government subvention.
In the early 80ies some Asians were laughing that Africans love big project but when you visit the company that make the machines in India etc, you just see few lathe machines in a small warehouse.
Even the factories ours are modeled after a usually smaller with less staff but higher efficiency and production.

As a business person, do you see this factory employing 1200 people and be profitable?
I am saying it should be ran as a business and not government business or rather civil service where you pack staff like sardine and kill the company.
