The entirety of God's laws can be summarized in one word: "Love." The Ten Commandments of God are a revelation of His will and the transcript of His character. The law of God is righteous because God is righteous. He is loving and just, and so are His laws.

The law has never been the problem. However, the sin in us has always been the stain that makes us guilty of the law. This stain is the reason why God sent His Son to die for us, so He can separate sin from us and redeem us. Then the character of God—the law—is written in our hearts!

Fallen man is a legal captive of Satan

As long as we remain in the bondage of sin, upholding the commandments of God becomes impossible. Similarly, just as God delivered the children from the bondage of Egypt before giving them His laws, He has granted us freedom from the shackles of sin through the loving sacrifice of Jesus Christ. This liberation empowers us to abide by His will. Only those who have accepted this gift of freedom can receive the Holy Spirit, which strengthens us to live above sin.

Have you accepted the gift of redemption?

"It is a law of the human mind that by beholding we become changed. Man will rise no higher than his conceptions of truth, purity, and holiness. If the mind is never exalted above the level of humanity, if it is not uplifted by faith to contemplate infinite wisdom and love, the man will be constantly sinking lower and lower." - Patriarchs and Prophets, p.91

God's position about the use of icons and images in worship is clearly stated in the Second Commandment. How then has the church allowed worship of images that's contrary to the will of God?

The name of God is holy and sacred. The third commandment forbids us from using the name of God for any improper purpose. As believers, we must refrain from calling on the name of God for unwholesome reasons that are not sanctioned by His Word.

"And you shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shall you profane the name of your God: I am the Lord." - Leviticus 19:12. We cannot invoke the name of our God in the context of lies or casually swear by His name; such practices are frowned upon by God.

The name of God should be revered, and as the Lord's prayer teaches us, we must hallow His name, for it is Sacred!

"Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it." - Exodus 20:8-11

"The Sabbath of God was instituted from the creation of the world. It was established as a day hallowed and sanctified for fellowship with God and His beloved creation - mankind. When the Ten Commandments were given, God reminded us about the importance of this Holy Day and the need for us to keep it holy.

The sacredness and importance of the Sabbath in our relationship with our Creator and God cannot be overemphasized. We must show, through obedience, that we cherish the time God has set aside from His work and ours, for us to be in a place of rest and worship. It's no wonder the enemy of righteousness employs all forms of deception to lead people away from observing the seventh-day Sabbath, springing up false teachers and apostate churches doing everything to turn away God's people from this responsibility of faith - remembering the Sabbath to keep it holy.

The importance of parents and our responsibility to them is clearly stated in the 5th Commandment. God expects us to honour our parents, because they are his representatives over us. He has blessed them with the responsibility and wisdom to guide us in the path of righteousness and truth as we gradually find our place in this world. Only God has the final authority over our parents.

This need to honour and obey our parents is reiterated in Ephesians 6, "Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise". Dear friend, how is your relationship with your parents? Do you respect and honour them as God has directed?

The Seventh Commandment is a protection of the purity of marriage.

Marriage and all its benefits are gifts and blessings from God. God calls us to accept the freedom of Christ and not to be slaves to our passions. He does not want us to step beyond the protective boundaries of marriage. Breaking the purity of marriage through infidelity can create a loophole that the devil can exploit to wreak havoc on the peace and love of the family.

Dear friend, the laws of liberty are given for our own protection, and the seventh commandment was given to safeguard the sanctity of the family!

Integrity and Contentment are the Keys

"Thou shall not steal": God demands that we live as individuals with integrity in our daily affairs with people. Theft, deceit, and overreaching should not be qualities found in our lives as children of God. Contentment is a virtue we must embrace if we want to keep God's commandments and enjoy the blessings of obedience. Work earnestly and honestly for what you desire to get, and you will enjoy the rewards.

Remember, dear friend, the quality of the life we live is not in the abundance of the things we possess.

By a glance of the eye, a motion of the hand, an expression of the countenance, a falsehood may be told as effectually as by words.

As believers, we must build the courage to stand by the truth. The 9th Commandment is against falsehood in all ramifications. Even though we live in a world that seems to frown upon those who choose to stand for integrity and truth, God commands us to choose the path of truth - even when it is not convenient or popular.

Do not succumb to the pressure to conform to the ways of the world, but let the word of God direct and strengthen you to stay along the path of truth. Do not bear false witness or misrepresent the facts of any matter. God expects His children to be people of integrity.

The tenth commandment strikes at the very root of all sins, prohibiting the selfish desire, from which springs the sinful act. He who in obedience to God's law refrains from indulging even a sinful desire for that which belongs to another will not be guilty of an act of wrong toward his fellow creatures. - Patriarchs and Prophets, 309.5

The commandment, "You shall not covet," strikes at the heart of our inclination to desire what belongs to others. By obeying this command, we are encouraged to refrain from even harboring wrongful desires for what others possess thus ensuring a community of respect, trust and harmony.

If All were willing, all would be filled with the Spirit

The lapse of time has wrought no change in Christ's parting promise to send the Holy Spirit as His representative. It is not because of any restriction on the part of God that the riches of His grace do not flow earthward to men. If the fulfillment of the promise is not seen as it might be, it is because the promise is not appreciated as it should be. If all were willing, all would be filled with the Spirit.
Wherever the need of the Holy Spirit is a matter little thought of, there is seen spiritual drought, spiritual darkness, spiritual declension and death. - Acts of the Apostles, p. 50

When it comes to our relationship with God, His Laws are central and it is a matter of love or hate.

It is not enough to claim to love God, the question you should answer is, "Do you really keep His commandments?". Dear friend, our relationship with God should be real - both in spirit and in truth. Love and God's commandments cannot be separated, because love is its foundation! "But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him" - 1 John 2:5.

Are the Commandments of God Voided or Established?

"Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:" - Romans 5:20 Many bible commentators use verses like these to argue that we are no longer under the law but in an era of "grace". But when we read the next chapter, "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?" - Romans 6:1-2, such claims are quickly proven wrong.

"Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus." Rev. 14:12.

An Unwarranted Omission!

..For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
We're not guiltless when we diminish the word of God. You cannot pick and choose the parts of God's law to keep. God's word and his commandments are eternal and sacred. It is a great violation of God's word for anyone to make any alterations and lead others into disobedience as a reason of such omission

"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." - Revelation 22:18-19

"I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people" - Hebrews 8:10

God's laws should be the only Truth we live by and source of our Faith - the Laws of God written in our hearts - his Truths established in the commandments. We must not let ourselves be led astray by individuals or institutions who exploit religious customs to evade their responsibilities, rendering God's commands meaningless. Our walk with God must be sincere, not one of hypocrisy and outward display of spirituality when our heart is far away from Him.

"Oh, that there were such a heart in them." We must rid our hearts of all forms of rebellious hatred, embrace the directives of God's law and worship him in Spirit and truth. The key to having life abundance and living in peace is obedience. There's no point living in the dark web of deception spawn out of disobedience!

We don't have the luxury of cherry-picking - it must be All obedience and always! " For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." - James 2:10
