Read carefully.

Take note of the words "export revenue" and look at the definition again.
Export revenue doesn’t mean it goes to the government purse. That’s why you are getting it wrong.

Going by that article, it means that we if government charges 5% tariff which summed up to 240million USD, it means that tanned skinned products exported in total is about 4.8billion USD. Lol

How much come be our GDP sef wey only tanned skin product go account for 4.8billion USD grin

^^ This is saying the Govt generated about N115 billion from Leather alone, which is quite possible considering that Duties & Others category accounted for over N400 Billion.

How can you even say that with a straight face? So where does export REVENUE go to? Your understanding of the word is where you're getting it wrong.

Indeed it is very possible because Nigeria's GDP as at 2020 stood at $443 Billion USD so how is it impossible for leather to generate $4.8b which is just over 1% of that? I suspect you're ignorant of Nigeria's leather trade.

You really made me laugh with this rather ignorant and condescending question.

Did you know Nigeria's leather industry is worth over $600 million USD (Over N288 Billion) according to latest figures from independent knowledge and personal experience? Do you know we export to Italian designers like Louis Vuitton from Kano?

I'm a licensed exporter just so you know.

Do even know what you are talking about?
1 in 100 of what Nigeria produces in amount is leather?

We are talking about even export here not all the leather products.

That guy is a dunce who wanders Nairaland spitting saliva all over. He has been schooled by many people yet his ignorance persists. Personally, I believe he grew up suckling directly from the udder of an ox which explains his stark dumbness.

It is very evident that the rossuku or whatever is his name, is the dumbest person on nairaland. Always in a hurry to show how dumb he is.

it doesn’t mean that government gets the 288billion yearly na? It’s just it’s worth not what government gets from them. You are just mixing everything up.

We are talking about revenue earned directly into the Federation Account. According to the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, cocoa products account for over $800 million in exports for Nigeria, with cocoa beans making up about 90% of that. This is the market cap of the cocoa industry, and it has been decentralized! Technically, the Nigeria Government do not export cocoa per say, they do it through different proxies hence FX is not directly paid into the Federation Account.

Please be guided, we are not talking about IGR from States paid to the Federal Government. You must be able to differentiate FX from Internal Generated Revenues. Cheers

There is a percentage of FX all licensed exporters MUST remit to the FG which helps in maintaining/boosting our foreign reserves. Cheers.

No, it seems you're just being mischievous.

Since you seem informed, can you tell us how much Government makes from N288 Billion Leather trade?

Government only receives the amount they pay in tax.

For example, if dangote cement industry is worth 500billion, it doesn’t mean that government receives 500billion from dangote.

Each year, about 48 million pairs of shoes are produced at an average price of N2,500 in Aba. Approximately 25per cent of these are exported to neighbouring African countries (Cameroun, Ghana, Togo, Liberia, etc), European countries (UK, Italy, Greece, Ireland), North America, and China. With an export value of $17 million, the Aba shoe industry is making a lot of strides; however, there is room for significant growth

Aba earns revenue worth #130billion yearly from shoe manufacturing and exports. Should we add this amount to the South East figure as revenue contribution to the federal purse?

Workch is almost about to go hoarse trying to teach unteachable people who do not want to let go of sentiments.
