Can You Finance Your Ex's Wedding Ceremony? by aktunde(m): 3:56am On May 02, 2011 |
So, we dated until up to our final year at school. Then she broke up with me on the very day we collected our NYSC posting letters. Her reason for the breakup was that she wanted to get married and settle down on time. Since we would be serving the NYSC at about the same time, she assumed that I would not be financially buoyant enough to sustain the marriage. she said a banker was proposing to her, and she had accepted. Painfully, I said ok. That was way back in 2005. From 2005 to 2010, I didn't set my eyes on her, and neither did I hear anything about her. So I assumed she could have been married by now, following her great determination to marry as soon as we graduated. Somehow, she found me on face book and added me this year. We started chatting on facebook last week, and she started telling me about our old school mates that are now married. I really didn't know what she was driving at with her regurgitation of the marriage stories. So, against my wish I had to ask her about her husband. She told me she isn't married yet. I wasn't surprised anyways. Now, she told me she would be getting married in October this year, and I have to finance it either I like it or not. I thought she was joking. But she said she was serious. From the last time we chat till this time, she had been sending messages to me, telling me not to forget what I will give for the wedding . The funniest thing to me is that; while dating her she was used to giving me ultimatums when ever she needed anything from me. If I didn't do it on time, I always found myself in hot soup. Lol. We met again after 5 years. Despite the fact that we ain't dating again, she is still giving me ultimatums that is almost the same as threats. I have never stopped laughing each time I remember; then I keep wondering if she is mentally okay. If not; why would a girl break up with me to chase another man, and still expect me to finance the marriage? What does she take me for? Then craziest is the "MUST" she is attaching to it. If you find yourself in my shoes; what would you do? |

You must have been her mugu back then. Well, 5 years is a lot of time and she needs to know you've had enough time to grow some balls. That aside, as to the finance my wedding thing . . . What the Flip?! How does someone ask that of someone they broke up with earlier on the grounds that they didn't have fat pockets. Some people seriously do not have shame. She can't just turn around and start asking for stuff like that if she is mentally sound. The shame of it shouldn't even make her bring her/her fiance's financial situation up knowing the context of her break-up with you. In that situation, I would politely tell her that I don't think it would be proper if I did it. |

Re: Can You Finance Your Ex's Wedding Ceremony? by Nobody: 5:15pm On May 02, 2011 |
M M M: There is what you CAN do, and then there is what is PROPER. Financing an ex's wedding who broke up with you over being broke (and also the manner in which she asked for it) is not only IMPROPER but would also be very deep-seated mugury, the type of mugury that any man with balls would sooner jump off a cliff than be known for. Good to know OP wasn't really considering it. |
