DMerciful: The Portuguese first came to Lagos in 1472 and met the Aworis there This is an Interview the Portugese embassy in Abuja gave 2 years ago also confirming that the Portuguese met the Awori in Lagos in 1472 https://www.theportugalnews.com/news/portuguese-founded-lagos-but-did-not-discover-nigeria-diplomat/48420 1 Like |

Clear. So where the Aworis settled(can't be the whole of Lagos) is theirs. Other recent migrants including people from West, East and North are all migrants. Lagos is now a cosmopolitan city developed not by the Aworis but migrants Christistruth00: |

DMerciful: Lagos is a Cosmopolitan City in Yorubaland with immigrants from all over the Country in the Spirit of One Nigeria The fact that immigrants settled Lagos from all over Nigeria does not mean Lagos is not Yorubaland it is. One of the reasons why the Capital was moved to Abuja was because Lagos was in the heart of Yorubaland Does the fact that it was Lord Lugard who built Enugu mean it is no longer Igboland ,no ! On the East side of the Awori of Lagos is Ijebuland where the Ijebus have been living for more that 5 Centuries Ijebuland begins at Lekki 1 Like |

He should have stayed in his region. His political enemies took advantage of the insecurity in SE and knowing fully well fingers will be pointed at IPOB who had no reason whatsoever to kill him RichDad1: |

DMerciful:By that logic. Egypt doesn't belong to the current Egyptians, UK doesn't belong to the current English, Igboland doesn't belong to the current Igbos, Singapore doesn't belong to the current Singaporeans, etc. White people should go back to the caucus mountains, Igbos should go back to Jerusalem area (or wherever else), etc. Go back far enough I'm history, no one belonged no where. But you clearly just want to claim Lagos like your people always does. I just want to know, with the effort you people like to claim Lagos, wouldn't you have a Lagos already if you simply started working on your own region? 1 Like |

More or less if you can conquer the people there now. Lagos is being conquered as we speak by Westerners, Easterners and Northerners. Only Oduduwa nation can stop this trend! MrMaestro: |

We should also do this for Kano and Kaduna. Kano is the nation's largest state but doesn't get enough attention from the FG and has been marginalized as a state. Lanrelagboi: |

DMerciful: Straw man, I never said New York had a special status. I compared Lagos to New York as it is the economic heart of the United States. Lagos is similarly is the largest economic conurbation in Nigeria, heck even in West Africa.. |

Let every state control their resources, period! nograv: |
Re: Sanwo-Olu Restate Calls For Special Status For Lagos by nograv: 7:24am On Jun 03, 2021 |
DMerciful: If that was the case, there is a chance Lagos would actually suffer economically at certain times. New York needed federal bailouts in the 1980s and recently due to the Coronavirus pandemic. London has also recently required a national bailout due to the pandemic, with a cool 1 billion pounds being required just for the underground railroad alone until Dec 2021. I understand your thinking, but were Nigeria run fairly and properly, Federal govt would actually bolster each of the states that comprise Nigeria. The issue for me is bad governance. Sadly the current crop of APC leaders rule with only the Northern region and its people in mind. If they engaged in less ethnic nepotism Nigeria would be working successfully. |

flexyrule: Resource allocation, not control, is the issue at hand... Lagos is accommodating about 10% of Nigerians and that should be reflected in resource allocation. In any civilized nation, the reason for a census is to determine where resources are best allocated... In Nigeria, residents in Lagos stretch its resources/infrastructure, while resources are allocated to their states of origin. > |

Resource control is the issue VAT, Income from the Port/coastal resources No one ever offers official data What is the contribution of Lagos state to the Federation account from VAT and other taxes including Port and Customs revenue What does Lagos get in return |
