Onion no dey reign for this side again ...even if them lift ban we no go dey buy as before. Scent leaf (nchuanwu) don take over onion role.

I ate a plate of ofeakwu yesterday, prepared without a single onion nor tomato, but with plenty Igbo herbs and spices and uptil now if I belch I still dey perceive the soup for my breath. The aromatic, spicy and antioxidant properties of scent leaf (ocimum graticimum) is far Superior to that of onions

To hell with onions

The Best Simple Onion Substitutes

- Skip it. The easiest and quickest option is to skip the onion. ...
- Chives. Adding a handful of chopped chives at the end of cooking works really well for adding complex flavour without onions. ...
- Scallions / Green Onions. ...
- Celery and / or Carrots

When you read the comments of Igbos on nairaland, you're hit very hard with the contradiction of their claims of being 'the best tribe' in Africa and their extreme show of a grossly limited intellect

Someone claimed that Northern farmers are wailing with regret over their refusal to transport onions to the Southeast, with no credible source to back it up and infact, attached pics of a thriving onions market and yet they're eager to believe it hook, line and sinker

It appears that intellectualism isn't the strength of many Igbos on social media or on any forum where the intellect is a representation of identity

Major igbo cuisines don't need onions. I'm sure they don't know this.

Dry fish used to come solely from borno state.(the type igbo people use). Then boko haram took over and dry fish price skyrocketed.
Igbo people found an alternative
Dry Thai fish. Problem solved. Many choices.

And what is the condition of storage?

You can't pile up onions and expect them not to spoil. They would start growing.

The only condition for preservation is expose them to sunlight and air.

The north only produce but do not preserve.

This is a general problem in Nigeria. We talk about production and leave out processing and preservation
