Hey guys. Just here to begin a discussion around all things adhd from symptoms, treatment and hacks to managing adhd especially given the inadequacy of intervention here in Nigeria. It would be nice if we could all share from our personal experiences so that we could all learn from each other and help ourselves on our journey to thriving. Personally I have been learning a lot about it and can relate with many of the common symptoms. Meanwhile there are also some symptoms that are not covered in the mainstream definition of adhd. So this should be considered before throwing out the possibility that one may actually be dealing with it. Common symptoms include : Inattentiveness The main signs of inattentiveness are: having a short attention span and being easily distracted making careless mistakes – for example, in schoolwork appearing forgetful or losing things being unable to stick to tasks that are tedious or time-consuming appearing to be unable to listen to or carry out instructions constantly changing activity or task having difficulty organising tasks Hyperactivity and impulsiveness The main signs of hyperactivity and impulsiveness are: being unable to sit still, especially in calm or quiet surroundings constantly fidgeting being unable to concentrate on tasks excessive physical movement excessive talking being unable to wait their turn acting without thinking interrupting conversations little or no sense of danger (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/attention-deficit-hyperactivity-disorder-adhd/symptoms/) If you can relate with 5 of these symptoms then you may be dealing with adhd. But ofcourse this would need to be diagnosed by a professional. But this is meant to be a starting place for us to get talking about the condition . Looking forward to hearing from us all |
