ipodstinks: Any difference in dialect among these towns, Iju, Emure, Akure, Ijare, Igbara-oke, Igbara-odo, Ilara-moki, Ikere dialect? Same dialect but in two states. Akure North, South, Ifedore are Ekitis culturally but not in a political entity. Deji of Akure used to be part of Ekiti Pelupelu Obas. 2 Likes |

Sammy07: Not alright! Ondo Ekimogun only shares boundary with Ekitis (in which Akure was part of), You need to listen to some Ondo panegyrics. Akure dialect is closer to Ise, Emure, etc compared with Ekitis in moba and Kwara to Emure, Ise, Ikere, Ado. Deji of Akure used to be part of Ekiti Obas' Pelupelu. Ekitis fought for capital of old Ondo State to be in Akure rather than Ondo town. Maybe you should listen to Akure and other Ekiti traditional music and see if there is any difference. 1 Like |

Elliotwaveforec:There's no difference between Akure and Ekiti; shared culture, dialect, Erekesin markets, traditional stools, music and every other stuff. The only difference is that they are in different states and this makes Akure recently trying to identify differently. 1 Like |

ipodstinks: So Emure-Ekiti, Igbara-odo are part of Akure? Do little research about Ekiti confederation history. How did Deji found himself in Ekiti Pelupelu Obas before political demarcation? The entire Akure North, South, Ifedore LGA in Ondo state have shared history with Ekitis with little ìjèsà influence just as we find in Igbara-odo, Okemesi, Efon, Ikogosi, etc. |
Re: Yoruba Subgroups And Where They Are by Alba3: 11:45pm On Jun 20, 2021 |
ipodstinks: Emure, Ise also say...Hi ara o. That's Akure and some Ekiti variation of the same dialect. Some Ekiti will also say 'hin ilẹ́ o' instead of 'hi ora o'; that didn't change them from being Ekiti. Listen to Aramoko, Omuo, Otun, Ado, Igbara-odo (all within Ekiti) but different variations of same dialect. 1 Like |

Alba3: I thought as much. And by the way, I don't think it was Ekiti that fought for capital of Old Ondo state to be in Akure rathan than Ondo town. It was because there was no cooperation among the chiefs in Ondo town. They were deliberating on which lands to release |

Re: Yoruba Subgroups And Where They Are by illicit(m): 4:24pm On Jun 22, 2021 |
Elliotwaveforec: The thing is that Ekiti dialect spoken in various towns varies according to the state the particular town borders That's what u have in Otun, it's near to igbomina towns in Kwara but otun is Stock Ekiti Fabunmi of Oke imesi was an Ekiti man who had lived in ilesha Oke imesi and Efon are Ekiti stocks they are just neare to Osun state hence the similarities Again, migrants are everywhere all over Ekiti but they rather assimilate 2 Likes |
Re: Yoruba Subgroups And Where They Are by Elliotwaveforec: 7:19pm On Jun 22, 2021 |
illicit: There's clear difference between the three dialects, there's no way one can take one for the other. Go to those parts of Ekiti and listen to them, you'd know how different they are. Ijesa and Igbomina dialects are unmistakable; anywhere they speak, you'd know. Like I said, Kiriji war brought the contiguity |

Re: Yoruba Subgroups And Where They Are by Alba3: 12:43pm On Jun 23, 2021 |
Christistruth00: Before the Ekiti Parapo, there had been Ekiti confederal states and Pelupelu which Akure was part of, so also towns in Oke Ẹrọ and Ekiti LGAs in Kwara state (also some towns in Akoko like Irun, Ogbagi, though debatable). Ijesa was never part of this, although they are the closest group to Ekitis and they both faced the same existencial conflicts with Ibadan which gave rise to the uprising against the later referred to as Kiriji war. We only have 5 stocks in Central Yoruba: Ife, Ekiti, Ìjèsà, Igbomina and Yagba. Can we now say Akure is with South Eastern Yoruba of Owo, Ijebu, Ilaje, Ikale, Akoko, Ondo, etc or with North Western Yoruba of Oyo, Ibolo, Owe, Egba, etc? Among the Yorubas, the thin line that separates Ibolo from Oyo speaking group is same that separates Ìjèsà from Ekiti; they're very very close in everything. Akure have never had different identify until recently because it's the capital city of Ondo state. Go and study the culture, tradition, songs and history of a place like Igbara-Oke, Ilaramoki, Ijede, Iju, etc in Ondo state and compare with places like Igbara-odo, Ogotun, Ikere, Ise, etc in Ekiti. It's also pathetic to see people saying Otun-Ekiti people are Igbomina (when you still have several Ekiti towns in Kwara after Otun) or Okemesi-Ekiti people are Ìjèsà. Ekiti is the only homogeneous state in the South if not in the entire Nigeria; the same stock of Yoruba people. They are only influenced in the boundary areas by Ijesa, Igbomina, Okun, Akoko, Owo and Ondo dialects of same Yoruba they belong to. The most important thing is Ekiti people understand themselves regardless the version one used unlike some parts of Akoko. 3 Likes |

Alba3: Otun Ekiti was the leading Ekiti Town It was such an important Historical Yoruba Town that when it was Carved into the Northern Region pressure was put on the British Colonial Government until it was remerged with the Western Region again The People of Otun Ekiti Migrated from Lagos in the 15 th Century and share a Similar Ancestry with the Awori of Lagos they are all descendants of Olofin Ogunfuminire Otun Ekiti was where the Ooni had divided Yorubaland into 2 spheres of Influence between Benin and Oyo to make sure his Sons would not be fighting each other instead of Expanding Yorubaland and that rule held till about the 16 th Century Benin tried to Capture Otun Ekiti 4 times but always failed In the 1870s Ogendengbe and the Ekiti Parapo Army almost took over Benin but decided that their Independence from Ibadan was the bigger prize they needed after much begging and gifts from the Oba of Benin to Ogendengbe Benin was let off the hook 3 Likes 1 Share |

Christistruth00: I agree with this. Moreover, we have three sets of Ekitis: those that shared common ancestors with Igala, Akokos, igodo, etc called Uraurẹ, the Obatala people called Ulesun and the recent, Omo Olofin, Omo Owa from Ifẹ; they form the ruling class in every town. 2 Likes |
