Must people don't think again. They just open their mouth waahhhh for cheap like on Nairaland.

To the Op, don't listen to people telling you that they is no future in Nigeria and that Nigerina dead this and that.

The same people still search for job in government parastatal. Same people enroll their kids on government schorlaship.

Truth is just do your best. And filter the nitty gritty and childish advice you get hear.

You cannot go wrong with Programming for the Internet. Aside the fact that it's easier and faster to grab, ironically it brings more money and it's high in demand. From this covid period, every company both small and large now sees a website or web application as part of their core assets. The tools you need to focus on are
HTML 5 - Determines the skeleton of the website
CSS - Determines the look and feel of website
JavaScript - Deals with the logic and Algorithm of the web site/application
This JavaScript one is so important because it is SOLELY the language of the internet. You can't miss using it when building website.

You can master all these above on YouTube

You can learn these below as well to expand your skill

Any database application like MySQL or MongoDB
They store user data

A Versioning tool like Git or TortoiseSVN - Allows you to submit your code and mix it with others in your team or around the world. This is how you will submit your work securely and effectively to your boss if you are working remotely for example

Google Chrome Dev tools should be learned for fishing out what could go wrong with your code

They may seem a lot but they are quite easy to learn as there are loads of tutorials on YouTube alone. Just make sure you learn the ones with the latest date otherwise you might learn outdated contents

The above are used by Web Developers called Front End specialist and they are being paid between $50k and $250k dollars depending on experience and competence

Good luck bro

CCNA is almost irrelevant in Nigeria. Although the knowledge you will gain from studying for CCNA will be super useful in many other fields such as cybersecurity. Also CompTIA N+ is much broader and simpler for a beginner if you wanna go networking route. But it won't help much for Jobs
Here are some of Highest Paying Professions
1. Cybersecurity
2. Data Science
3. Cloud Computing
4. Software development

If you are serious, you are a mere 6 months away from learning any of those and 2 years from being very skilled

WhatsApp me for more in-depth advice. I was speaking to someone last week, he paid New Horizons over 200k for data science. When I asked him for their curriculum, I was dumbfounded cos It's too shallow. Python and ML is not even there.

If you are reading this and capable of self-learning with adequate mentorship, beep me for materials in up to 20 I.T specializations

shocked WOW! Land a lucrative I.T Job in 2021. Grab this I.T MEGA BUNDLE and Go from ZERO to HERO in just 6 months. 20% discount expires tomorrow.

Hello nairaland members.please I need serious advice from the core IT guys.
Please,is the CompTIA series as relevant as the Cisco here in the Nigerian labour market.i was also at aptech and the prices of their training programs were very much higher than that of New horizons.
Please I wish to know if anyone as tried both centers before, and what the experience was like.
Please I need ur advice on this

You really want to build a sustainable and rewarding career? Being an expert in all these IT skill area would do nothing but only make you a generalist, but when you acquire SAP skills, you become a specialist. There are opportunities both home and abroad and you can learn and acquire these skills in a matter of 12weeks.

Let me know if you need more information.

I'm also in yabatech, so it's best for you to have a skill and school degree just incase... I'm more likely to use my graphic skills to travel learn more designing and work there.... Just be ready for ikeja traffic ⛔.. grin grin

Nobody pays that high amount of money to learn an IT skill anymore unless you're looking for certificates.

There are enormous free videos, programs , study material, YouTube open class (from top universities like MIT ), that give you that opportunity, the only thing you need is your own dedication and commitment to practice.

This CompTIA or whatever you call it, doesn't define you as an IT expert. These days, people have git profile, learn skills, attend seminars ,join groups on Reddit and discord, listen to podcast and videos and seeks out scholarship online and study and practice really hard on projects and they are doing very very much better than folks who go out seeking for certificate. My two cents

Discipline is a scarce commodity nowadays.

Nothing announces you faster than that your "project portfolio" on open source platforms like github.

And Youtube University? That is God's gift to the underprivileged.

But many are too lazy to put in the work.

It is well.

Hello sir

IT is wide. You need to go with the IT path that aligns with your passion and interest. And not because it sells.

For starters, I will recommend you go the Cloud computing route or cyber security courses

Eg. 0365,Azure Fundamentals or AWS if you can afford it.

Thereafter you can add the normal conventional Windows server to it . (You will surely need this last last)

If you wanna go the cloud technology route then CCNA is not a prerequisite.

To identify which path in IT interest you, go to YouTube and watch through the tons of videos.

Follow the path of the IT path that interests you.

If you get big brain, you can search and learn about Ai.Machine Learning .

Caveat: This is just my personal opinion and I could be Wrong.... Lol

Please I need your advice on this

Someone said you should know first of all where your interest lies which I think is the best advice so far. So, what is your IT background like in terms of KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE?

No IT certification is entirely easy, because things get increasingly complex as you go deeper and it's your interest that will sustain your training as you go along, not just the desire to acquire a cert nor your intention to get a job/make money with it. So the first thing is to IDENTIFY WHERE YOUR INTEREST REALLY LIES.

So I should ask, why are you considering Cisco? My take on Cisco certs is apart from equipping you with skills to work on Cisco devices (which can be a advantage or disadvantage depending on where you find work), they also provide you with general knowledge applicable in network/internetwork/security infrastructure environments.

You did not mention which of the CompTIA certs you're considering, though CompTIA certs are not vendor specific but take a broader view of the field in question relative to proprietary certs like Cisco, Microsoft etc.

Overall there are significant overlaps in the knowledge and skills being tested by CompTIA and Cisco certs. Thus there is no one size fits all approach or solution, but YOUR INTEREST (based on your KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE) should help you to determine the study/career path that suits you.

Good luck!
