Health16:
Toyota, a Japanese multinational automotive manufacturer, has snubbed Nigeria, as it opened an assembly plant in Ghana.

The plant, which was established to assembly Toyota Hilux pick-up and other sedans by the Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing Company Limited, is located in the Freezones Enclave in Tema.

President Akufo-Addo of Ghana commissioned the plant yesterday (Tuesday, June 29, 2021), saying the development will help make the acquisition of new vehicles by Ghanaians more affordable as well as enable public sector workers to be able to afford and purchase locally assembled vehicles.

Nigerians remind me of guys/ladies who fall hardest for anyone who rejects them… grin grin grin

Honda, Nissan, Ford, Kia, Hyundai, Peugeot, Leyland, Geely, and a bunch of other cars are assembled in Nigeria
We’ve not adequately patronized those ones, but instead we are now in love with Toyota because they chose Ghana. SMH

Meanwhile, a condition for this plant is that Ghana must RESTRICT the importation of used cars?
Try imposing the same restriction conditions in Nigeria, and watch the Nigerian middle-class go APESHIT!

You have no idea of how big Nigerian market is.

Reason they choose Ghana is simply for ONE reason and that is due to NEARNESS to Nigeria. They could have gone to EGYPT, SOUTH AFRICA OR KENYA....but they have the biggest business leads and opportunity in Nigeria.
They are already in SA. Wouldn't be surprised if they are in Kenya. Nigeria is trying to reinvent the wheel.

Ghana should enjoy their time jare, as Nigeria have thrown the towel. They've lost their economic and numeric advantage due to their repeated mistake in electing leaders with poor leadership credentials. This current set of political leaders are the worst in the anals of Nigeria history.

[s][/s]use your head and read for 1 minute.
The post you quoted was clear enough but you read and still didn't understand a thing.

Any big factory running on government given power will be running at a loss. Because it's not cost effective.

That's why no big factory in the world will operate on national grid.

Most factories in America and China or anywhere in the world generate their electricity and sell the excess to the government. Not the other way around.

You kids should really stay in school and learn. and not allow yourselves to be brainwashed by nairaland that is full of stupid post.

When i started posting on nairaland I'm not sure you had a phone of your own. Go and learn basic economics and what govt do to attract foreign investments and stop making a buffonery of yourself.

First it was Twitter, now it Toyota.

They are not improving the economy, they won't give a welcoming arm to those that will improve it.

Innoson and Toyota have different market.

How many Innoson vehicles do we have on the street? Innoson target is the elites and government. Toyota is for the common man.

Toor! undecided

Or they are afraid that some people will burn their cars, loot them as they did during the EndSars protest
colorsofrainbow:

No.
They are scared that someday bokoharam(bandits)/Fulani terrorists would bomb their facilities or kidnap their workers & then demand $1 trillion dollars and then Pantami will communicate Sheikh Gumi to negotiate on behalf of the terrorists and get his share.
Same with all notable international investors.
Nobody would want to throw money into fire.Hence their japa... grin

That plant is definitely not intended for Ghana market; will be mostly destined for here.
yeah you are right...But due to the erratic nature of our electricity and the highest level of insecurity..Theydecided to put the plant close by (nearness to market) so that TOYOTA in Japan dont wake up one morning nd receive the news that their plant in Nigeria has been overtaken by bandits...
