Abubakar Malami SAN, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, on Thursday shed light on why he announced the rearrest of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Hausa language.

Some Nigerians who saw the viral video clip where the Minister was speaking in Hausa language had condemned the action of Malami saying by his actions, he gave preference to one ethnic group above another.
However, speaking with DAILY INDEPENDENT, Dr. Umar Gwandu, the Minister’s spokesperson, said his principal first addressed the media in English language but later spoke in Hausa following the request of international media stations, such as the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) who broadcast their programmes in Hausa.

He said after speaking in English, the stations had appealed to the Minister to also speak in Hausa language for the effect of soundbite.

“If you have any journalist who attended the press conference, you can call him to verify. He (Malami) first spoke in English language but because there was BBC Hausa and other international media stations that broadcast their programmes in Hausa language at that press conference, these stations asked for insert because of the essence of soundbite and the minister obliged them by speaking in Hausa. Radio station is different from newspaper or television.

“The Minister spoke in Hausa, which is one of the three major languages in Nigeria because he understood and can speak the language. He would have done the same if he can speak Igbo and Yoruba too. Non-English speakers should not be denied access to news,” he said.

They always have a reason to justify their mumuness when its exposed..why not get an interpreter whilst speaking in English? Or why not insist and inform the media that you must communicate in English by all means...most times these guys think we are zombies and fools...

The media platform that brought up the news did so mainly to spark ethnic tension already.
They are already aware of the quoted fact but nope, they choose to do what would fuel crisis and when they are being prosecuted, it becomes democracy in danger.
I don't know if democracy gives room for delebrate provocation.
How people especially media houses would intentionally lie to spark crisis and expect people to keep mum in the name of democracy.
May God help us in this country..

Can we all agree that there is an IOTA of truth in this Islamization of Nigeria story?

For those of us who are fortunate enough to have a NAIRALAND account and access to the internet however not properly educated please note that Nigeria has an official language (English Language) and as well a common language/lingua franca (Pijin).

The cover story of BBC (BiG blACK cork) requesting the malam to speak Hausa is complete horseshyte, and thoroughly baseless. In 2021, the brits should not tell you what language to speak except you are still a slave!

They could use a translator to broadcast their news in any language and not forcing the local unexposed malam to speak in a language not known to 70% of Nigerians.
