But I advice Architecture . Architecture really open your mind and eye to creativity.

As an architect you can join a lot with it.

4. Set Designer for film making

7.Real estate .

Architect are the head and leader of the building team .

But Civil engineer does it better on road construction.

I think you are asking the wrong question.

What you should be asking yourself is “what am I passionate about?”

Follow your passion and more often than not you will always find the strengths, perseverance, energy and drive to go longer, harder, further and more consistent than others in your field.

That is what will always make you EVENTUALLY rise to the top of your field….

Doesn’t matter whether it’s here in Nigeria or in a developed country….

It also doesn’t matter the field.

Your passion is what translate to value and at the end of the day, value is what is rewarded with money, resources and a “name”.


This is not a motivational talk. Just the benefit of 2 decades of labor and toil in the the wrong job.
This is the guidance may of us should have received but never got.

I have designed numerous hotels bro, passed approvals. Architecture is dead already. I saw a programmer some few days and he said computer has been able to bring architecture to everyone but their problem is structural designs. He asked if I could get him like 100 templates and i told him maybe whe he's 80years old. Lol

It's quite funny to see this just after getting my second job as an architect. Been long I saw this kind of view, looks like one from a proud myopic engineer. (I respect engineers but you as a person just lost my respect). You don't sound intelligent at all. Your knowledge is so limited. Get out of your village and see what's really happening out there. Architecture is way more than what you think.

Back to the op... Both fields are lucrative if you're good and we'll connected. If you know you're not well connected, just make sure you're extremely good with the knowledge of the courses and the related softwares. Have a thing for tech and foreign jobs. Don't be old school. You will break out.

Don't forget to learn a tech related side hustle while in school. It will give you the financial confidence you'll need in your mid twenties. I wish you luck!

Dear OP,..From your description I think Architecture will work better for you,..

Do not mind who makes more money or who is more superior,...

If you get admission in Civil Engineering please go for it, don't hesitate because admission is not very easy in Nigeria.

In case you want to write JAMB gain you can go for Architecture,

There is nothing in the two professions that is too difficult for an average student.

None of the two professions will go extinct in the next 200 years,

Civil Engineers give me work and I give civil engineers work,

The owner of the real estate company I once worked in was a business man, not an Architect or Engineer.

I am encouraging you because of your post not to compare which profession is better. Both professions are good.

Ease do mot mind all those doing comparison here they are looking at the professions from a basic perspective, in advanced projects there is none superior to the other. There are sectors where Architects are never needed and there are also those where Engineers are never needed.

Civil Engineering covers Building, dam, erosion control, roads, geotechnical, e.t.c.

Architecture covers Building,interior,landscape, lighting design,psychology, history,politics, business,. E.t.c.

You will very rich Architects and Engineers, You will also see very broke Architects and Engineeers, what guarantee your success is your disposition, strategy and God.

Your ability to be confused on the course to study and being able to bring it open shows how critica, analytical, creative and receptive you can be.
I see you as very creative and you will do well in Architecture if you can accommodate the stress In school.
Architecture is expanding daily as the world gets more advanced, as an architecture your primary assignment is 'creation and modification of space'. You must be a great thinker and analyst jut you should be ae to express yourself.

Drawing is involved in Architecture, but the essence of the drawing is not for the Arts but for the purpose of expressing that thing you want to create, hence the evolution of 3D and Animation in Architectural designs, this comes because there is usually different interpretation for a work that is not properly deatailes ant that is why specification writing is done in detailing.

Just look around you and begin to appreciate your environment first.
In some years to come you will come back to this thread and I hope you will appreciate this counsel.
For your information you will still meet calculations in Architecture but not as much as in civil engineering depending o your school anyway,..I did theory of structures up till 300 level.
And when you graduate respect professionals in other areas of construction, you can't be all and you can't know it all, you will be needing the support of other professionals irrespective of what you studied. It is arrogance and pride that makes one feel his profession isore superior than the others.

I know this is coming in late.
You said you are not good with mathematics, well Civil Engineering be the father of mathematics and if you no strong, only numerical go kill you.
A period will arise when all the courses will have calculations. Transportation, alternative to transport, foundation design etc. But the good news is if you know Civil Engineering well, you can be doing assignments in school, analyzing designs for clients and even winning contracts and building houses.
There are so many civil engineers without job and contract, and there are those who have a lot of jobs. Make sure you know mathematics very well because the course is full of maths.
Learn auto CAD, archi CAD, civil 3d, protastructure, Orion and the list goes on and I tell you, you won't lack.
Architecture is good on the other hand however, they work hand in hand with civil engineers.
Achi engr will draw last last, na civil engr go interprete and build the house.
The only big difference is that archi students sabi make noise for lab, and they can imagine things from nowhere and come up with a beautiful plan.

Since you are average in maths then Architecture would be your best bet. Engineering is actually more of maths than drawings. You only translate your designs to drawings which would be done by a draughtsman.

In Nigeria it doesn't make much changes the one you are. I am a Civil Engineer and I have friends who are Architects. In the eyes of the average country man we are all called Engineers because all of us collect building contracts and majority of us the Engineers draw also. Architects don't draw for me, as a matter of fact only few of them will create something better can I would. Only few knows the difference. Bottom line, which ever you choose , broadening your knowledge is a must because in this country na who draw house dey build am.
Unless you are planning to work for a company then you might consider Civil Engineering because their are more openings for their vast area of discipline than Architecture.
However, if you want to be independent, Architecture will start paying you quite early and going fully professional with your ARCON is quite faster than joining COREN.

Mbbs oga. Pls don't reason this one. You can do residency in a branch of medicine dealing on drugs ( allergy and immunology) and sub specialists in drugs which is a win win. Doctors are resident in opthalmology which doubles and does the job of optometrist. Mbbs all the way pls.

I will say go for architecture. Civil engineering limits your creativity and innovation unlike architecture,
job opportunity in architecture has a wider range especially if you know how to prospect unlike civil engineers who have to be employed mostly at times before you get paid.

Civil engineers can’t work without an architect whilst architect can work alone.

These days most architects also learn civil engineering on the job while supervising building projects.

Try and create a profile on LinkedIn to network and share your stories and journey with like minded people who will be willing to help and guide you along the part you will choose.

as an electrical engineer close to many civil engineers/architects and based on the terrian in Nigeria both are good courses . The civil enginner is the number in the project and building frame work and brings the direction of the project( the rest of us are called to bring our inputs)

So be the almighty civil engineer with architectural expertise and experience undergoing courses in 3d simulations with autocad

So it's a win win...you are the civil engineer with architectural expertise.

To be honest in this country even we electrical engineers bid for civil jobs and do it ourselves. You just have to learn everything to survive here.
