My guy the whole country is one big social working field". The institution are called social institutes. Be firm and grounded in you field you will get by. I studied sociology nested in it is psychology. It's a prime science at the moment. It's even generating laws that are govern human social interactions. But trust Nigerians to ask stupid questions like which kind work you go get from that kind course. I just leave them to their thinking while am busy taking advantages of it |

Bankowner: Very true. Get an MSc from the U.K., if you can, secure a work permit and start a great career. My wife is both a Social worker and a Nurse here, but she’s working as a Social Worker at the moment and enjoying it. It’s a well respected and rewarding career here in the U.K. 2 Likes |

I know it's hot cake in the whole of Europe for obvious reasons: the social net provided by traditional family ties and the extended is practically non-existent! Richdee1: |

Dear Op. Social work is divided into 4 main sectors; 1. Community Development 2. Health 3. Social welfare 4. Industrial Community Develpoment: You can help act as an intermediary between communities and organizations, in harnessing the desires of a particular community. Asides being able to help such communities get grants from NGOs, Government parastatals, you can also help motivate them in achieving their set goals or desires through ‘Self help’. Health: You can act as an intermediary between a patient and his/her relatives at the hospital. A patient might be brought to an hospital with an illness or ailment. A health social worker tries to relate with such patients as a friend, and uses such closure to ensure that the necessary needs or requirements needed to aid the patient’s healing process, are met. Social welfare: You can work at a welfare service..most esp government welfare services. Therein, you might be saddled with the responsibility of dispute resolutions between spouses, divorce cases…etc. Industrial: You can act or serve as a safety officer or a Human resource officer. Ps: Social Work covers a lot more than I can ever outline…you could work with the aged, infants, displaced, mentally challenged etc. I’ve got a masters degree in Social Work. Leaving the country isn’t a bad idea either! 3 Likes |

She is about to register in UK as a licensed health social worker. So my question now is that, what are her chances of securing a job in the UK from Nigeria after the necessary registration? How will she or what are the procedure for her to secure work as a social worker in the UK? I mean reputable sites for such. |

It’s better if the person is able to do a post graduate course here in the field of study, in order to know the legal framework that guides the job. Social Workers here have legal backing and there are U.K. Laws they need to know in order to discharge their duties appropriately. I’m not sure such laws are thought in Nigeria.
