If you have done water baptism you are already "born-again". You can only backside but also and always come back to repentance by ask God to forgive sins. I am afraid you are mixing unrelated issues up here.

Whenever you sin, you ask for forgiveness of sin in order that God, the one whom you sinned against,may forgive you our sin. There is no workaround for that.

Now in relation to baptism by water, Jesus Christ declared in John 3 vs 1 - 22, that except a man be born-again, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. He further explained that to be born again one must be born of water and born of spirit, where born of water refers to what is called water baptism.

Now as to the essence of water baptism, John the Baptist explained to us in Mathew 3 vs 7 -11, that the baptism is to mark a person's decision for repentance and in Ezekiel 36 vs 24 - 26, we find God Himself speaking through His prophets of His use of water in washing those in His new agreement.

"Born of spirit" is not Holy Ghost Baptism and so should not be confused in anyway as such. To be born of Spirit, as Jesus Christ taught in John 3 vs 1 - 8, refers instead to a spiritual birth that takes place when we become born again. As Jesus Christ exlaihed that we were born into this world as physical beings but when we turn to Him, we experience a new kind of birth, a spiritual one .i.e. we become of spirit in addition to being physcal beings. God explains in Ezekiel 36 vs 26, in relation to this, that He wil put a new Spirit in us at that time.

Baptism by the Holy Spirit only happens after you have become a Son of God aka Holy/Perfect or without sin. And. Baptism by fire is the baptism that takes place when your works are tested by the Word of God and that you have no control over.
