I might sound spiritual but it worked for me.

Go on your knees and talk to God about it from a sincere heart.

Take conscious steps to stop and somehow, you will stop, somehow.

I used to be a chain smoker and this is how I quit, although I still drink (because I enjoy it) but not heavily.

We would remember you in our prayers.

Cheers bro.

Straight to the point,

I'm a chronic addict of alcohol and cigarettes. I use them heavily and that has caused me a lot of health issues. I'm struggling but couldn't quit.

I smoke and drink at the detriment of my health which has seen me access the hospital on many occasions than normal.

I've applied all techs thru people's testimony of how they quitted but none worked with me.

I swear every night that I've quitted but on first light the next day the craving increases.

I'm battling multiple health issues and I need help.

Please, anyone with a way out help please. If I don't quit now, I'd kiss mother Earth sooner.

I need SOLUTIONS...

Oga, go to rehabilitation center

U can help yourself and nobody can help you except you are really sincere unfortunately u can except you surrender your struggle to to your maker christ by acknowledging that u can help yourself but He only can help you pray sincerely u don't need pastor to pray for you do it yourself and see HIM take the urge away

Someone in your condition cannot quit cold turkey. Perhaps that’s the mistake you are making. Most health experts would even tell you it’s dangerous for a chronic alcoholic to quite at once. The withdrawal symptoms alone can kill you.

Start by reducing how much you drink daily at least by half. Just drink enough to still give you that “buzz” that your body needs to function as it has become used to, but not enough that you get drunk and pass out. From there reduce it gradually over several months to give your body time to adjust to the change.

You can fill the free time you now have on your hands with other healthy activities like exercise, jugging, reading, watching movies or documentaries, sleeping or actually working! Before you know it, you will be amazed by how much your body will no longer crave for alcohol.

Trust me I used to be like you. When I was going through a difficult phase in my life I used to drink first thing in the morning to give me the motivation to even get out of bed. During the day I sneak from work to take a few sachet drinks and cigarettes from vendor near my office and then at night I completely destroy myself with multiple bottles of beer, some more sachet drinks and countless cigarettes to help me forget the stress and sleep properly. Things improved for me when I took this advice I’m now giving you from a friend and now I’m sober. I still drink but I’m no longer dependent on it to function or make it through the day like before. I just have the odd beer or two every now and then now, mostly at night no more morning or midday drinking. Good luck mate.

The only help you need right now is Jesus (repent). Get on your knees & pray to God to forgive you, & make a determination, definitely He will see you through.........Amen.

You can only trade addictions before you finally end it

Once you make the decision to stop Alcohol, then you must have sleeping pills , depressants or Valium handy for the sleepless night

And to quit tobacco you must get, e-cigar, or any moderate caffeinated beverages or kola handy at all times

.
Not always. You can trade alcoholism/cigarette addiction for healthy habits like exercise/gym, new skills, hobbies, etc. All capable of being good sources of dopamine release.

That's cos you have the discipline to trade your addiction for some healthy alternatives.. most addicts are mostly people who lack discipline

A weak mind will always produce weak results. I will tell you the truth no matter how painful it will be ... digest it!

I was a smoker like you 2packs a day, but I haven't touched cigarettes in years and never again.

Recently I quit smoking weed and that one too I will never return to again

I want to share with yout my own tips for quiting whatever is pulling me down.

First I would like to know if you know the root of your addiction everything we do is compelled by something somehow because nothing happens in a vacuum. Everything equals out to zero.

So what are you trying to numb is it emotional, historical, failures, illnesses, relationships, evil dids, regrets? What?

If you can answer it truthfully you will have found the cause of your mental addiction. The addiction of your body to those things will dissipate once you cure the addiction of your mind.

Now once you figure the reason why you are running from reality, challenge it and face it, God will never put a problem too big for a man to handle it's only if he chooses not to handle it, then he falls under the pressure, but if he rises to the chaallege, he comes out the other end a stronger person.

Fight!!!! Fight It brother !!! Go to War!! Be ruthless with It be aggressive with it do whatever you can to resist the temptation beat it into the ground. Place it in front of you as the enemy within... The snake that kisses and wraps around you only to snuff the life out of you while singing lullabies . You need to have a mental picture of it and begin to starve it with all the focus humanly possible.

It takes just 21 days to rewire your mind out of habits so I will ask you this

Can you fight it for 21 days? Are you man enough to face your demons and fix your life or will you continue to waste away till you become food for worms?

It is because there is greatness in you that is why the devil will never let you have a clear mind but if only you can leave the stable of the pigs and sit on your throne then you will realize what you have been robbed of.

Fight brother don't take it as quiting... take it as a war.. all the anger and frustration of hteyour kind of life addiction has deprived you of use is as rocket fuel... be angry be very angry .. It is your life we are talking here

Fight!!!!!

21 day is that too much to ask? This life is the only thing we are sure about and I will tell you what I found out, the only way is to live to the highest possible good that you can achieve if you die today, what will be your legacy?

21 days try it if you haven't already because it worked for me.

Thanks

Oga, don't dish out wrong advice, if you can't help the young man, just don't add to his problems. Smokers are actually liable to die young, the fact that your brother is a selected few doesn't mean the quote is not valid. Alcohol can cause hepatocellular cancer, smoking is a carcinogen for virtually all forms of cancers. Infact, in medical school, when asked aetiology of any cancer and terminal illness and you don't know the cause, just say alcohol and smoking. As for the op, see a doctor, a consultant preferably, there are some drugs that could help with the cravings.

Don't mind the ignoramus fellow. He who the gods will kill they first make mad. So I had a collegaue sometimes ago who will tell you he's been smoking since about 30 years or so, some with this same kind of mentality will conclude with a wave of the hand that everything is well, since they're yet to encounter any serious health issue as a result of involving in such bad habit. Unfortunately this guy died almost in the office, I mean he was dying just about the time he resumed for work on the morning of that faithful day, he was stabilized and later taken to the hospital where he eventually passed on. But prior to that day with kin sense of Observation you can see a walking corpse because of his swollen cheeks which is not the effect of excessive good living but a massive damage to the vital internal organ of the body. Whoever wants to continue drinking and smoking should continue, since so many assumed they know more than the experts or professionals shaddled with the responsibility of adequately informing the public on the danger inherent in the consumption of those illicit substances.

I need SOLUTIONS...

Hello dear, I have a very easy solution for you that is stress-free and won't wear you out. Pls read the below. smiley

If you're born again, try this very simple thing.

Firstly, the Bible says without faith, it is impossible to please God. When Christians are sick, they have faith and quote the scripture "by His stripe I am healed". When Christians are in need of financial need, they have faith and quote "my God shall supply all my needs..." or "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want...". But when they sin or are struggling with sin(in your case addiction to alcohol and cigarettes), they don't know how to use faith (not their faith but Christ's faith - believing that God is good and wants them made whole).

So Op, whenever you find yourself struggling with alcohol or smoking, confess out loud "I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus". Jesus Christ, who knew no sin became sin for you that you might be righteous in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21)...Even Romans 3:22 says the righteousness of God is by faith in Jesus Christ.

So again, confess that statement out loud every time you find yourself sinning. Right in the midst of your struggles, while you find yourself falling back into it or while you feel tempted, confess it. The devil doesn't want you to believe Jesus has made you righteous. He may whisper in your ear and say you're a hypocrite...that how can you be sinning and still call yourself righteous. Well how can a sick Christian still believe by faith that he/she is healed? Cos you have to go by the Word of God and not by your circumstance. For sin shall not have dominion over you, cos you're not under law but under grace (Romans 6:14).

You may not overcome this struggle immediately but gradually, they're falling off you. One day, you'll just realize that urge isn't there anymore. Cos faith is calling those things that are not as though they are. Confess you're righteous in Christ and see miracles happen in your life. (Please don't feel condemned if you fall back. Jesus knows your struggles and He still cares. He's there to pick you up whenever you fall if You call on Him.) And this confession goes for your every inheritance in Christ Jesus! Since you're righteous in Him, every blessings that belong to the righteous are yours!

The causes they give are speculative?

You mean..

The anecdotal evidence, that most lung cancer patients are smokers,is just coincidence?

The huge mountain of evidence that shows that Whites are more prone to skin cancer, due to UV exposure, than Blacks..

Are mere conjecture?

They don't know what they are talking about? grin

Bro if your intention to quit is health motivated only, it may be very difficult for you to quit this addiction. See it as a sin, genuinely ask God for help. Do a 3 day fasting and prayer with the intention of quiting, you will be amazed how God will take away your addiction. I was a serial smoker, it was so bad that even if i during water i will smoke white London. I took the decision to stop smoking, i did a 1 week fasting and prayer and God answered. I haven't smoked any type of cigarette since i quit in 2003. No addiction is easy to stop, na why we need to run to God. Good luck bro

Quitting addition is mostly not an individual effort. Groups and communities help, but sadly that's not common in this country. Hope you find help anyways
