A short while later, the IG was spotted entering Mr. Bankole’s residence, ostensibly to break the siege on the speaker’s residence. However, a source in the Goodluck Jonathan administration s[b]aid the IG had instructions from the presidency to tell the EFCC to back off from the outgoing speaker’s residence.[/b]

Nigeria's anti-corruption police known as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission are engaged in a tense stand-off at the home of Dimeji Bankole, the speaker of the house of representatives accused of corruption. Security sources told Saharareporters that a group of officials sent to execute Mr. Bankole's arrest could not do so because he resisted arrest by the agency over money laundering allegations.

Mr. Bankole had planned to travel to the United Kingdom this morning on 7 :00 AM flight in order to avoid arrest, but EFCC operatives soon invaded his official abode at Apo quarters in Abuja, the official residence of Nigeria's number 3 official.
